The Intention of this blog is to share a checklist  of steps (major one in terms of source system preparation ) prior to migrating you BW from XXX database to SAP HANA .Most of the points would be aldreay known to you ,so i am trying to prepare a checklist , do give you input if i had missed on some steps .

PRE- MIGRATION ACTIVITIES:-

We assume that you have decided on the migration option (New BW instance, upgrade, migration , DMO ) and also decision on Stack split as per the requirement has been taken .This document  details list of  activities that are recommended (optional) as pre-migration activity .

The purpose of pre-migration activity is to cleanse unwanted data that will help in accelerating time line of migration and Optimized usage of HANA. The focus should be on :-

  1. Master Data & transactional data spread across PSA tables, change logs, info Objects, DSO and Info cubes.
  2. Meta data like job logs, process chains logs, bookmarks etc.

Points to take care of before migrating NW BW on HANA:-

  1. Shrink the data which will be moved to the row storage of the SAP HANA database. To achieve this we need to follow BW housekeeping TASK list, mentioned in detail below.
  2. Shrink the data which will be moved to the column store of SAP HANA (NLS solution) / (RDS available).
  3. Use the released database migration option (DMO) as part of SUM tool for the in-place migration including upgrade/Migration/Unicode steps .

Regular housekeeping activity on BW system do take care of the data cleansing. Let’s see the focus area and do re-run the checklist to see that you have optimized your system before migrating. We have to take care of following data, always consult the concern team/member who owns the data/service before taking any action :-
