SAP’s vision is to help the world run better and improve people’s lives. The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team is tasked with making this vision a reality with goals of enhancing education for underserved youth and propelling emerging entrepreneurs to foster economic growth. To achieve these goals, SAP engages talent to build capacity and the foundation for learning and innovation, provides strategic funding to increase impact, and leverages SAP technology to level the competitive playing field.
Through SAP Technology Donations and additional business unit driven donations, nonprofit organizations and entrepreneurs in more than 30 countries have access to analytics, enterprise and mobile solutions, with a cloud offer being evaluated. In fact, in 2012 SAP provided more than 1,500 licenses with a retail value of $800,000 USD; and by the end of June 2013 SAP had already provided 900 licenses with an estimated retail value of $600,000 USD.
SAP is providing incredible value to nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations (NPO/NGO) around the world, and four recently announced partnerships really demonstrate how SAP executives, product experts, our partners and NPO/NGO organization employees are working together to make a real difference in the world.
SAP donated SAP Business One to Échale a tu Casa to help it more efficiently provide materials and training to empower people to build their own homes. The organization provides resources to help people independently build houses for low-income communities in Mexico, and has built more than 2,000 houses in nine Mexican states to date with 2,200 more under construction. In the upcoming year (June 2013 – June 2014) Échale a tu Casa expects to deliver 10,000 family housing solutions that will impact more than 50,000 people. Every 100 houses built results in jobs for 350 individuals. SAP implementation partner Avantis donated all professional services for the project. (learn more)
In Swaziland, SAP provided technology licenses, hardware and consulting services to Young Heroes. This non-governmental organization (NGO) provides encouragement, education and resources to the more than 125,000 Swazi children that have lost at least one parent to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. More than 15,000 households in the country are headed orphans today. SAP’s donation allows staff to process overseas donations rapidly and efficiently, giving
staff more time to directly interact with support these children. SAP partnered with Storm Code, a Web and content management solutions provider developed the system that permits staff to work offline in real-time, with their work replicated to the server during nighttime hours.

Coffee from Columbia is among the best in the world, but the family farms producing the coffee face intense competition and unstable prices. SAP partnered with a national alliance of coffee growers, Colombia’s Federación Nacional de Cafeteros to provide 5,000 tablets and computers as well as the underlying information system that helps farmers check daily coffee prices, decide the best time to sell their crops and collaborate with other farmers – changing how farmers think and interact with the world. The program will have 500 farmers trained by year-end. (learn more, video)
Mobile technology and services donated by SAP are helping to streamline operations of Feeding America, a leading hunger relief organization that “rescues” near-expiration or surplus food from grocery stores and restaurants then distributes it to a network of 200 food banks and 61,000 partner agencies across the United States that ultimately help feed 37 million people in need. The pilot provides mobile apps and hand held devices for truck drivers at Forgotten Harvest in Detroit. In the past, drivers manually filled in forms to document every pic- up and delivery in the field then reentered those transactions into an ERP system after their shift resulting in frequent data entry errors, inaccurate views of inventory and an inability to react quickly to new donations or agency requests. The mobile app has eliminated paperwork and manual data entry, gives the driver a real-time view of truck inventory, provides the central office immediate inventory updates and provides easy rerouting of trucks with extra capacity to pick up new donations quickly then redistribute to agencies on the route. Reducing operating expenses enables Feeding America to utilize employees more effectively and puts more trucks on the road that can pick up and deliver food. Every dollar saved results in eight additional meals being secured for families in need. (learn more, video)
As part of SAP’s upcoming 9th annual Month of Service, SAP’s signature volunteer event that aims to provide 50,000 volunteer hours via service projects around the globe, the CSR team will pilot a skills-based volunteer effort to help nonprofit organizations in the United States, Canada and Germany to better understand their operations and improve reporting with their stakeholders through use of SAP’s desktop analytics portfolio.
