SAPPHIRE NOW in Orlando last week was, as usual, a whirlwind event.  Non-stop keynotes, sessions, meetings with customers and partners, dinners…and even a concert by Jon Bon Jovi and the Kings of Suburbia!  To give you an idea of the scale of the event, over 20,000 people attended on-site. And according to SAP marketing chief Jonathon Becher: even if an attendee spent 8 hours/day, 7 days/week consuming content, it would take 92 days to finish it all!

Within that vast ocean of content, where were our sustainability solutions? Pretty well represented I'd say, as part of the Line of Business Campus.  There were well over three dozen sessions on topics related to SAP’s solutions for sustainability portfolio. And thanks to a great agenda builder system, people were able to seek out and find these sessions and people to connect with.  Amazing how like-minded folks can still connect at a big event like this!  Here is a quick summary of key customer related sessions:

Southern California Edison-  Doug Ciolli’s presentation was on how SCE, one of the largest utility companies in the U.S., is reducing risk and improving operational efficiency by transforming environment, health and safety (EHS) business processes. Highlight: implementation of SAP EHS Management for incident management for 15,000 employees in 12 weeks, counting the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday weeks!  Watch the replay.

Siemens -  Dr. Johannes Milde, CEO of Siemens Building Technologies,  spoke about how joint innovation with SAP led to a visionary dashboard solution that provides transparency in managing building performance, including energy use, based on the SAP HANA platform and industry expertise. Watch the replay.

Walmart -  Steve Pettinger of Walmart was on a panel discussion on optimizing sustainability across global business networks.  The panel was hosted by Steve Illes of SAP, and also featured Jon Johnson from The Sustainability Consortium, and Dieter Haesslein from SAP.  It was a lively discussion that centered on the benefits of efficient exchange of product sustainability data among supply chain business partners.  Watch the replay.

Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) - Jim Kaiser spoke about "Achieve Safety, Reliability, and Compliance in Production Operations".  He shared how with SAP solutions, personnel now have the operational intelligence they need to monitor production, track emissions, and coordinate maintenance activities. He also highlighted improvements in regulatory compliance, equipment performance, and maintenance.  Watch the replay.

As well as these customer presentations, there were over 30 additional sessions and areas focused on sustainability topics, including:

  • Customer microforum discussions on product safety and stewardship featuring Kimberly-Clark and Milliken and Company.
  • Demo theater sessions run by SAP experts to show solutions such as EHS management innovations, incident management, risk assessment, management of change,  conflict minerals,  sustainability data exchange networks, and product compliance.
  • Expert tables for customer discussions and demos devoted to Environment, Health and Safety; Product Safety and Stewardship; and test drives of mobile EHS apps and the new Fiori apps for chemical safety and workplace inspections.

Some of our solution management experts were also captured on video sharing their insights:

Overall, it was a content-rich event, with plenty of sessions and SAP experts there to serve our customers and help them better understand the rapid evolution and market leadership of SAP’s sustainability solution offerings...and most importantly, how they enable companies run simpler, more profitably, and more sustainably.
