Finally, SAP BusinessObjects 4.1 courses are available! Well, many are. I’ll update this blog as more courses become available. And don’t worry if you haven’t upgraded to 4.1 yet. The 3.1 classes are still available.

In this blog, I’ll list the courses by application name and provide an overview of the course content and duration. Please note that some version 4.1 courses have a different duration than their version 3.1 or 4.0 counterparts. The following version 4.1 courses are longer than previous versions:

  • BOID10 – 5 days (no BOID20)
  • BOW320 – 2 days
  • BOX310 – 3 days
  • SAPBI – 3 days

Also, if you don’t see a course you need, it’s only because the 4.1 version is not available yet. However, the 4.0 version should suffice until the 4.1 version comes out.

Crystal Reports

There are two “flavors” of Crystal Reports: Crystal Reports 2013 and Crystal Reports for Enterprise. The major differences between the two are the product interfaces and the systems, SAP Business Warehouse (SAP BW) and SAP BusinessObjects, to which the finished documents can be uploaded.

Crystal Reports 2013

Universe Design Using the Information Design Tool

Information Design Tool (BOID10) 5 days, instructor led

This course will give you the comprehensive skills needed to design, build and maintain Business Objects universes. In addition, you will explore more advanced data foundation and business layer functionality in order to provide robust reporting capabilities to business users. You will create universes on non-relational data sources such as an OLAP cube as well as a multi-source universe, and learn about new features and functions introduced in version 4.1. You should attend this course to understand universe design concepts and terminology, as well as the role of universes in relation to the SAP BusinessObjects reporting tools.

Wait a minute! You listed BOID10, but what about BOID20?

You spoke, and we heard you. The topics in both courses, BOID10 and BOID20, were so critical to understanding the full functionality of the Information Design Tool that many customers took them in tandem. For this reason, SAP decided to combine the two courses into one. The combination helps with the flow of content in the course as well as knowledge transfer. In five short days, you’ll learn what you need to know about the Information Design Tool and its capabilities for creating robust universes for your end users. In other words, the 5-day course is not simply the "old" BOID10 and BOID20 courses combined into one but rather a thorough introduction to the features and functions of the tool. In fact, the 4.1 BOID10 course includes very valuable information that is not covered in either of the 4.0 BOID courses.

Wait a minute again! What about Designer?

Well, if you are a new customer to the SAP BusinessObjects tools, you should not be using Designer. You should be creating your universes using the Information Design Tool. If you are upgrading to the 4.1 tools, you still should be creating all your new universes using the Information Design Tool and using the old Designer (called Universe Design Tool in 4.1) only to maintain your old universes. Oh, and you should use the Information Design Tool to convert those old universes to the new universe format. (Tip: That’s a great job for interns!)

SAP BusinessObjects Data Services

Um, where is Data Services?

Don’t worry! Data Services is still around and quite popular. So popular, in fact, that it now is its own product category: SAP Data Services. It is no longer associated with SAP BusinessObjects products simply because it can be used with virtually any data source and, therefore, any business intelligence tool. The Data Services class is now called DS10, previously called BODS10. The Data Quality course is still BODS30. The new course, DS30 should be out in Q3 2014. The best news of all? The new courses have brand new course codes, so you don’t have to worry about what Collection number they are!
