BW Training Overview
The BW 7.4 classes are now available! While you can find a course outline on SAP’s training webshop, http://training.sap.com, I would like to briefly outline the courses.
Which course should I take first?
Typically, the BW305 and BW310 courses are the first course an individual should take. The BW305 course covers all aspects of the Query Designer as well as execution and navigation of the queries. As of the 7.4 version of the class, the queries are displayed using Analysis for Office. You can think of this course as 5 days of getting the data out of the BW Data Warehouse.
The BW310 course on the other hand is the first exposure to the Administration side of the BW Data Warehouse. We cover building various InfoProviders such as InfoObjects, InfoCubes, Data Store Objects (DSOs), and MultiProviders. Additionally, we cover the Data Flow, typically known as the ETL process. So you can think of this course as 5 days of getting data in to the Data Warehouse.
If your job requires knowing how to create queries, you want the BW305 course. If you are going to be responsible for loading data to BW, you should take the BW310 course. However, if you have the ability to take both courses, it would be very beneficial. No matter your job requirements, it is a good idea to get a well-rounded view of both getting the data into and out of the BW Data Warehouse.
Additional BW courses on the Reporting Side
BW307: This is a 2 day course which covers developing sophisticated Web Applications. While the BEx Web Analyzer is a delivered template which can be used to execute BW queries on the Web, some customers prefer to create their own Web Applications. If so, the BW307 course is for you.
If you are using the Business Objects (BOBJ) suite of products to present your data, there are various courses you can take as well. A great overview class is the BO100 class. BO100 – Reporting with SAP BusinessObjects BI Solutions for SAP NetWeaver BW: This course provides detailed knowledge on the integration for reporting of SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.x with SAP NetWeaver 7.x. This course uses BW queries and displays them using Web Intelligence, Crystal Reports, and Dashboards.

queries as their source of data.)
Additional BW courses on the Administration Side
BW330 – Modeling: In this course we cover the more theoretical nature of how to model the layers of your BW Data Warehouse. Things like: How do I know what characteristics should go in which dimensions? Should I use DSO’s or Cubes to store my transactional data? Should I use display or navigational attributes? Time Dependent attributes vs. Time Independent attributes? We also cover all the tables that store the master and transactional data.
BW350– Acquisition: In this course, we cover the Data Acquisition layer in greater detail. We cover the concept of Deltas for both the InfoPackages and Data Transfer Processes (DTP’s). We also cover the Error Handling capabilities on the DTPs, the LO Cockpit, and Enhancing a Business Content DataSource. We also cover the extraction of non-SAP data into the Data Warehouse. We also have an introduction to utilizing SAP Data Services to extract non-SAP data into the Data Warehouse. Also
covered is Operational Data Provisioning which is a framework for extraction and replication scenarios. The data is stored in Delta Queues and can be consumed by subscribers, that is, SAP applications that subscribe to this delta queue and can read the data out of this queue.
BW360 - Performance and Administration: In this course, we cover the performance aspects of InfoProviders, all components of the BW Data Flow (ETL) and query performance and which provided tools to use in these areas. Administratively, the course covers topics such as the transport of BW objects, the archiving solutions for BW data and the management of administrative warehouse functions through using process chains.
BW365 - Security: The ADM940 course, which is the prerequisite to this course covers SAP Security. The BW365 course covers what is unique to SAP BW Security. It covers how to secure who can do what vs. who can “see” what on the reporting side (Analysis Authorizations).
BW370 – Integrated Planning: This course covers Planning within BW using the Integrated Planning Functionality.
Please note all of these courses under the Administration side have a prerequisite of the BW310 course.
DBW74 – Delta: If you are already trained in the 7.0 version of BW, the 3 day DBW74 delta course covers the differences from 7.0 to either 7.3 or 7.4.
BW on HANA
BW362 – BW on HANA: This course covers BW on HANA. It assumes you have an understanding of BW already. BW310 is the prerequisite to this course. All
of the courses listed above are for SAP BW not on HANA.
*NOTE: BW362 is the only class that covers BW on HANA. All the the courses listed above are for SAP BW, not on HANA.
