As manufacturers shift more and more of the production to the east, supply chains become more complex and costly. In addition, they intensify their endeavors to increase efficiency and focus investment on competitive strengths by offloading non-core business divisions to external service providers. For this reason, manufacturers and retailers are increasingly outsourcing a variety of value-adding logistics functions, above and beyond warehousing and distribution.
