University Alliances (UA) Research spotlights PhD student/research assistant, Christian Schulz from Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OvGU).

The goal of this series is largely consistent with the goal of the UA Spotlight Series, to exchange insights with UA professors, students, researchers and others linked to Universities from around the world. Here we focus on researchers and their experiences.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I studied Ingenieur-Informatik and graduated with diploma at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OvGU). Since October 2012, I am working as a research assistant at the Center for Very Large Business Applications (CVLBA), Faculty of Computer Science (FIN), Department of Technical and Business Information Systems (ITI) in Magdeburg. In this context, I am working on my PhD thesis with the topic “Cloud Operations Management”. My research interests include software engineering, modeling and integrated architectures.

Share a bit about your SAP and UA Research background. How long have you been studying SAP-related topics? How long have you been active with UA Research?

On the one hand, my University Alliances (UA) research background is related with my employment at the Center for Very Large Business Applications (CVLBA) research project. On the other hand, it connected with the close vicinity to the SAP University Competence Center (UCC) which is also located at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. The access to experts as well as the opportunity to work as a member of the giant UA community together with the research on latest and applied systems is very interesting.

Tell us about your current research projects. What projects are you working on? What do you hope or expect to find out through your research projects? Has your understanding of SAP and the marketplace grown through the experiences related to your project?

In my thesis “Cloud Operations Management”, I am considering how to support operational processes within virtualized Cloud data centers. The dynamic of virtualized, elastic Cloud environments raises new demands on operations management that data centers have to face. Therefore, new requirements come up which form the challenge of “Cloud Operations Management”. For that approach, the processes of the operators are to be supported by increasing the grade of atomization, granting an integrated information flow or giving an intelligent view on occurring issues, for instance.

What do you like most about the University Alliances Community on the new Jive platform? How does this help/improve your SAP knowledge?

This platform helps members to address all other members within the UA community in no time. Moreover, the new design enables to access relevant content much easier.
