ESEFA team members from the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Department of Information Systems, Karin Reissenauer (ESEFA project manager) and Gwamaka Mwalemba (ESEFA lecturer) took a 3 day whirlwind trip to Kampala last week to present the ESEFA programme to 12 academics from the College of Computing and Information Sciences and the College of Business and Management Sciences at Makerere University. Makerere University is Uganda's largest and second-oldest higher institution of learning, first established as a technical school in 1922.
Gwamaka said enthusiastically “We had a good exchange with the lecturers from the different departments, gaining a better understanding of how they run their courses and how the Enterprise Systems curriculum could potentially be adapted for and integrated into the various disciplines at Makerere”.
Makerere University will be the 10th university to sign an ESEFA partnership agreement, thus fulfilling the project’s milestone of partnering with 10 other universities – in addition to UCT which is the ESEFA Centre in the region - in 10 Sub-Saharan countries for the 3 year pilot phase of the project. The objective of the funded project phase is to establish a sustainable Enterprise Systems education programme for Sub-Saharan Africa.
“It’s a great accomplishment to have achieved this milestone,” said Karin, “and I am really looking forward to working collaboratively with all the ESEFA-Partner universities to realise the overall objectives of the ESEFA programme which is to make Enterprise Systems education easily accessible to students across the continent”.
