Five Seidman College of Business students attended the worldwide Sapphire Now (SAP) and Americas’ SAP Users’ Group (ASUG) conference May 5-7 in Orlando, Florida.

The conference, which attracts business executives and industry experts, highlighted new technologies shaping business today and included information on SAP HANA, a new in-memory computing platform.

This is the first time Grand Valley students were invited to attend. The students, who are part of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) program at Grand Valley, included Marissa Mushna, Kajal Magal, Audrey Koons, Shannon Heynen and Ashley Mushna. The ERP program at Grand Valley is one of the world’s leading programs where students gain an understanding of integrated, cross-functional business process experience using SAP® software.

“We wore University Alliance shirts all week at the conference and were constantly stopped by people asking about it. That led to several opportunities to discuss Grand Valley’s MIS (Management Information Systems) program,” said Marissa Mushna. “It was an honor to represent Grand Valley and be able to share my enthusiasm about our program with professionals who want to recruit from our school. There are so many different career paths for the MIS degree, and it was very interesting to talk to people in all different paths to help me get an understanding and find a direction of where I want to go when I graduate.”

The $2,500 cost of admission to the conference for students was covered by SAP University Alliance, which connects students around the world who are interested in SAP solutions, careers and research opportunities. Students participated in classroom sessions, app development and networking opportunities.
