On Wednesday, December 02, 2015 the SAP University Alliances team welcomed 22 American students from James Madison University, their Professor of Economics Nevin Cavusoglu and the Study Abroad Program Coordinator Raquel Dailey.

Jens Romaus, SVP Public Sector Business Solutions, gave an overview about SAP with the focus on the topic “Transforming Business for the Digital Era” to the students at Kalipeh. Then, Lynda Seger from SAP Sports and Entertainment Communications hold a presentation entitled “SAP for Sports & Entertainment – SAP`s 25th industry”. She highlighted SAP Sports One, the first cloud solution that brings together fans, players and managers, as a SAP solution for the sports and entertainment industry. Afterwards Maria Calzada de Neumann (SAP University Alliances Country Manager - Latin America, Spain & Portugal) introduced SAP University Alliances. Maria underlined that SAP University Alliances encourages students to experience SAP in the classroom and become SAP certified already during their study times.

Next was the visit of the SAP Inspiration Pavilion, to learn more about the history of SAP and for firsthand experience of the manifold faces of Big Data. The students got to know how data is affecting our lives today and uncovered its enormous potential for the future.

After a lunch break Jens Romaus closed the visit with a round of questions and answers. In addition, he wanted to know what the students learned about SAP on that day.

The second group from Heilbronn University consisting of 30 students and 2 professors, Mr. Prof. Dr. Marcus Wimmer and Mr. Dipl.-Ing. Dietmar Drechsel, visited SAP’s Headquarters on Monday December 07, 2015. (Click here to visit Heilbronn University on Facebook).

First of all, the students were invited to join a presentation from Joachim Mette (Director | Business Innovation & IT – Strategic Initiatives), in SAP’s Digital Boardroom. Among other things, Joachim showed SAP’s lines of Business, KPIs about the performance, the software support and service revenues etc. Besides he visualized how SAP is earning and spending money using a tree diagram.

After the visit at SAP’s Inspiration Pavilion Sabrina Dick (Head of HR Project & Diversity Office EMEA) and Florian Grad (Controller | Enterprise Analytics | F&C Cross FP&A) who both have been former students at Heilbronn University as well as Christina Stockhofe (IT Change Management Associate Consultant | Enterprise Analytics | F&C - Field Controlling) spoke about their career journey so far. They shared experiences they made in looking for jobs, especially the first one after graduation and how their studies shaped them as personalities. All three of them agreed that working for SAP is very much different from working in traditional German companies and it is the culture that makes it so special to work here. The students had quite a number of questions around job opportunities at SAP for graduates, interns or thesis students. While it began quietly it turned out to be a great discussion in the end and the 90 min slot was almost not sufficient. More questions could be clarified during the joint lunch session.

On Wednesday December 09, 2015 15 American students, 1 professor and 4 program coordinator visited SAP SE as last group for this year. The company tour was requested by the UIW European Study Center in Heidelberg which is organizing study trips for American student groups to travel through Europe.

At first Sabrina Dick, Head of HRBP Office EMEA, was speaking about what she has done in the past at SAP and what she is responsible for today. Afterwards the group visited the SAP d-shop, ‘The Developer’s Workshop’ which is a global grassroots program that brings IoT technologies closer to the visitors. The technologies covered include electronic platforms for building connected devices such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi and BeagleBone, as well as 3D printers, wearable devices, augmented reality and virtual reality devices, robotics and sensor network.

Finally, the group visited the SAP Inspiration Pavilion as well as the other groups did. The visit was closed with a common lunch in our canteen.

All student groups enjoyed their visit at SAP’s Headquarters in Walldorf. SAP University Alliances is happy of the fact that this year the Headquarters were visited by 19 academic institutions totaling to almost 400 students from all over the world. We hope that this will continue in 2016!
