We are extremely excited to share with you the summary of the recently concluded SAP Next-Gen Hackathon with Volkswagen at a top UA member institute called College of Engineering, Pune on 2 April 2015. This hackathon saw 30 students and 8 employees from Volkswagen working together on challenges (business scenarios) brought in by Volkswagen. The students wore cool SAP Next-Gen Consulting T-shirts co-branded with Volkswagen and RCC logos and they worked on SAP HANA Cloud Platform. In total 15 employees from Volkswagen were present at this Hackathon. The students were divided into 6 teams where 8 experts from Volkswagen were put in so that they could together tackle the following challenge questions posted by Volkswagen. ·         Warehouse Management HANA FIORI Apps ·         Live Dashboard for the Procurement/ Production/ Dispatch ·         Google Map Integration with SAP on fleet management/ E-Dealership The experts from Volkswagen provided the required business scenario/ functional expertize while the experts from SAP facilitated smooth orientation and learning curve on SAP HANA Cloud Platform. The event was kicked off by Prof Tripta Nair from CoE Pune who welcomed the delegates from both the corporates and also shared a beautiful presentation on the association between SAP and CoE Pune and Volkswagen and CoE Pune. The college is a member of both SAP University Alliances as well as SAP Education. Mr Milan Kumar, Head, Group IT RCC, Volkswagen then took over to speak about Volkswagen as a group, exciting the students with the number of well established car models that they have globally. He also spoke about the great collaboration between Volkswagen and SAP and how they leverage SAP systems to run their operations. Rahul Sachdev, Head of SAP University Alliances India Subcontinent spoke about the wonderful possibilities of the SAP Next-Gen Consulting initiative and how it has the potential to benefit students, Universities, SAP Customers, Partners and SAP highlighting the start of a new collaboration with Volkswagen on the SAP Next-Gen Consulting initiative in India. The experts from SAP  Shankar Duraiswamy and AjaysimhaDhurbakula kicked off the hackathon with a great overview of SAP HANA Cloud Platform and its capabilities. This was a very important session as it enabled the students to start working on their solutions directly on the platform. Not only the students but the experts from Volkswagen benefited by these engaging sessions.

The participants spent the entire afternoon ideating and blueprinting the solutions for the problem statements given to them. They spent some intense moments of coding while also some lighter moments over tea, pizzas and cookies. The panel of judges comprised of the experts from SAP (Shankar and Ajay) as well as 3 leaders from Volkswagen – Mr Milan Kumar - Head – Group IT RCC, Mr. Uday Gore – AGM and Mr.  Amit Sharma – AGM who spent their precious time evaluating the presentations as well as the demos by the teams and posted questions to the students on their work. The winning team had worked on FIORI app to tackle the warehouse management case scenario. We look forward to more such SAP Next Gen Hackathons at our Top UA colleges with great participation from our SAP customers / partners
