On June 8, 2016 we were pleased to welcome a group of students in the company of Michelle Fan, coming from Tongji University. The day began with a tour through our SAP Inspiration Pavilion, where the group learned more about the history of SAP in connection with the growth of Big Data and its impact on all our lives. Afterwards, Agata Cieply and Andrea Tvarusko from SAP University Alliances gave these enthusiastic students an overview about SAP SE in general and explained what their department stands for. Daniela Dima, also from SAP University Alliances, introduced the group to Academy Cube, the world’s smartest talent platform for graduates and job-seeking professionals.

Sabine Herzberg (Corporate Affairs CSR) talked to each student individually, who presented their major, which varied from Engineering to Natural Science to Medicine and many more. Subsequently she gave a presentation about her place in SAP Corporate Social Responsibility. GESS, the Global Entrepreneurship Summer School, known as a global initiative is placed in Munich, Mexico City and Shanghai. Their aim is to get students into entrepreneurial thinking and give them a chance to experience real entrepreneurship with a social impact. After 8 successful years of GESS in Munich, GESS was brought to the next level thanks to the partnership with Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico), Tongji University (China) and the support of the SAP Foundation.

We all enjoyed a little rest and a common lunch and then started to head to Heidelberg. Our goal was the SAP App House, where the group was offered a workshop. The unusual furnished App House placed in an old factory, aroused the students to come up with loads of funny, inspiring and some brilliant ideas. Michael Byczkowski (Head of customer Design Engagement) informed the students about the Design-Led Innovation Approach, naming external factors which included the Employee Mindset, the speed of change in technology and the Interconnected Global System. A Lack of Focus on Users and Low Employee Engagement were specified as Internal Factors. Based on the Innovation Design Process: Discover-Design-Deliver; each student produced its own prototype and was in for presenting it to its group afterwards.

‘A developer needs to be curious and also develop empathy for end users’ – Hasso Plattner.

The group utterly enjoyed their visit and we did too. Thank you for coming Ms. Michelle Fan and all the students!
