The 18th SAP Academic Conference EMEA featured a distinguished research track. Thus, the conference was not only a great platform to foster exchange among lecturers and SAP experts, but also attracted researchers to present and discuss their work.
The objective of the research track was to provide researchers and practitioners a forum to discuss the most recent innovations, trends, results, experiences and concerns on Very Large Business Applications (VLBA) and their related technologies. After a peer-review process, eleven papers were accepted, covering the broad spectrum of VLBAs. These included:

- Understanding the Potential of SOA in Corporate Divestitures (Markus Böhm)
- Study of an ASP’s Functional Areas: Towards an ERP for IT Service Providers (Johannes Hintsch)
- Enterprise Asset Management systems: Methods and techniques for life-cycle management of high-value complex products (Alena Fedotova)
- Variances in Supply Chain Information Sharing: An Analysis based on Incentive Alignment and Game Theory (Tobias Engel)
- Effects of Energy Models on Simulation of Load Balancing with Respect to Power Consumption (Matthias Splieth)
- Big Data: How in-memory technologies create business value? - findings from a SAP HANA proof of concept (Frederik Kramer)
- Automatic Date Adjustment on a Central ERP System (Bastian Kurbjuhn)
The track was chaired by Dr. Suparna Goswami, who together with the other researchers and visitors engaged into an active discussion. The participants shared their opinions and experiences, and provided advice on how to continue the research. The work of the researchers was also represented at the booth of the Center for Very Large Business Applications (CVLBA).
