After multiple successful series since 1993, the 18th Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems (PACIS 2014) was held at Chengdu City Center in China on 24 – 28 June 2014. This is the 5th year that UA APJ has been participating in this PACIS series beginning from 2010 in Taipei, Taiwan. PACIS conference provides a forum for researchers and practitioners all around the world working on all aspects of Information Systems, especially on Big Data, to meet annually and allow quality information exchange opportunities. 2014 sees a total participation of 226 Universities and 780 participants with over 80% of them who come from China alone. More than 30 prospective faculties (from Australia, China, Hong Kong, Finland, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and the United States) visited our UA booth to find out more on the University Alliances offerings on Learn, Apply, Share, Recruit, Student Entrepreneurship program, Human Face of Big Data etc. The main theme for this year’s conference is “IT Ubiquitous and Collaborative Innovation”.

We also had the good opportunity of having the 3 UCCs represented at this Conference – UCC Munich (TUM) (Prof Helmut Krcmar being the President of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) Council), UCC Brisbane (QUT) (Prof Glenn Stewart) and UCC Beijing (BJTU) (Vice Dean Frank Li).  Prof Stewart and Prof Li were also readily on hand to help explain to prospective Universities on the benefits of joining the SAP University Alliances and the hosting services the institutions can receive from the UCCs.

With the successful completion of PACIS 2014, UA APJ will now focus on the preparation for our participation at the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) 2014 which will be held in Auckland, New Zealand from 14 to 17 December 2014.  The theme of ICIS 2014 will be “Building a Better World through Information Systems” which SAP and UA can certainly contribute much content and workshop for the Conference.
