On May 22, I was invited to participate as a guest at a round table which was organised by Association of students of business informatics and logistics at Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana. Beside me the guests were also HR manager from Microsoft Slovenia, CIO of company Snaga which is utility company and SAP customer, Head of development of Business Applications at Trimo d.d. and a freelancer consultant and developer for MS Navision.

During hour and a half long discussion we had a chance to address more than 85 students and 8 professors with our messages and views. Red line of discussion was how companies see the profile of Business Informatics in these days, what are the needed competencies and skills of graduates, and are students “armed” with wight knowledge after they finish their studies and entering the job market. I used this great opportunity and explained the mission of UA to the audience and how we are executing our mission through the offerings. While we were discussing about the right IT skills that are searched by companies, it was great that I could directly recommend to students some free offerings like openSAP and Academy Cube – platforms, through which they can up-skill themselves and acquire the knowledge which would help them to become a better candidate for their “dream job”.

Even when the discussion was over many students approached me with different questions, and it was clear that students are eager to get more SAP knowledge. Due to this demand we have stepped together with SAP partner company Avtenta, and approached one of pro-deans at Faculty of Economics. The outcome of the meeting which took place in a week after the event is the “Summer SAP School”, 4-day SAP ERP workshop which will happen inweek37 2014. But this is just the beginning.
