SAP University Alliances hosted its 19th SAP Academic Conference EMEA in Berlin from September 9-10 at the German university, Freie Universität Berlin. The main theme of this year’s conference was “Cloud Meets Data-driven Processes – New Horizons and Entrepreneurial Opportunities”. Key highlights of this event have been shared here.

SAP University Alliances hosted its 19th SAP Academic Conference EMEA in Berlin from September 9-10 at the German Freie Universität Berlin. The main theme of this year’s conference was “Cloud Meets Data-driven Processes – New Horizons and Entrepreneurial Opportunities”. Key highlights of this event have been shared here.

The event brought together leading experts in education and research to discuss the growing importance of Big Data and potential business opportunities. At the conference, members had the opportunity to exchange ideas and share experiences with their colleagues, expand their professional networks, and secure new contacts for future collaborations as well as joint innovations and research projects. We had more than 350 faculties and professors joining us from all over Europe, the Middle East and Africa with 65 % coming from Germany and remaining from other nations – a total of 38 Countries were represented.

The first conference day, the agenda included updates on the SAP University Alliances program as well as keynotes by Prof. Dr. Christoph Meinel, director and CEO of the Hasso Plattner Institute, on how the new computing power delivered by in-memory and multicore technologies can help tackle Big Data, and Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Müller, Co-Head of SAP Innovation Center, on The Future of Enterprise Application. We also had a membership signing ceremony with President of Freie Universität Berlin, Dr. Peter-André Alt on stage. Additionally, members presented new and existing projects focusing on Big Data and entrepreneurship, including the SAP University Alliances Big Data Innovation Center & Lab and Big Data in medical diagnostics. The first day of the event was concluded with an award ceremony where Ann Rosenberg, Prof. Dr. Helmut Krcmar from UCC Technische Universität München, and Prof. Dr. Klaus Turowski from UCC Magdeburg presented awards to educators, researchers and professors.

The awards were presented to acknowledge these educators in endeavors such as supporting SAP University Alliances and driving the certification program (Dual Study), increasing the number of SAP University Alliances members in Pakistan, sustainable development of the SAP University Alliances program in Moscow Power Engineering University, dynamic contribution in SAP CIS Ecosystem development, innovative approach in involving students  to LEARN & APPLY SAP, creating a specific curriculum on SAP ERP dedicated to the QLIO Master (Quality Logistic Engineering Organization), opening a third Master’s program dedicated to SAP ERP with TERP10 certification in Tunisia,  and the first school in Maghreb with SAP certification, to name only a few.

On the second conference day, participants attended several workshops covering topics such as data modelling with the SAP HANA® Cloud Platform, ERPsim and a simulated production line by Festo Didactic. Learning factory by Festo Didactic, with its focus on Industry 4.0 was one of the key highlights of this conference. Dr. Theodor Niehaus, Managing Director, Festo Didactic introduced great Industry 4.0 topics including how to bring Industry 4.0 curricula to classrooms; engage students in Industry 4.0 events, crowdsourcing, and research; and driving joint thought leadership.
