The 1st Asian Innovation Summit was successfully hosted in Design Thinking Innovation Center at Communication University of China (CUC) Beijing on 30th Jul 2015. This Summit is co-sponsored by CUC, SAP UA member school starting from 2014 and  Hasso Plattner Institute in Posdam, Germany. As one of the key contributor, SAP UA China was supporting CUC on the entire operation of this event. The event also received strong support from SAP CSR team and SAP Business Innovation team. Besides, DT experts from Stanford University, University of Potsdam, Germany, and Intel, Lenovo, Audi, SIEMENS,  IDEO and many other world's leading institutions of higher education as well as leading companies came as keynote speakers or playing the role as DT workshop coaches on 31st. Hundreds of business leaders, experts and scholars, young entrepreneurs and social welfare leaders are participated from all over the country to experience the Innovative DT summit.

There are 3 sub forum in the afternoon of 30th. The meeting coordinator grouping the hundreds of conference audiences into the 3 sessions naming as Innovation in Education, Innovation in Social Welfare, and Innovation in Business. Dr. Lincoln Lu, Chief Architect, Business Innovation, SAP Greater China delivered a lecture in the “Business” session; while Frank Li, Director of SAP UCC China brought a lecture in the “Education” session; and Ms. Linda Fu from China CSR  joined the “Social Welfare” session at the same time.  During the event, both Jenny Yang and Frank Li are been granted as Design Thinking honored coach by CUC due to their consistent contribution to guidance students of CUC practicing DT and using it for real-world challenges. As the key enabler to foster SAP knowledge transforming to future talents in Chinese universities, UCC China is considering the cooperation with Design Thinking Innovation Center at CUC in terms of including Design thinking course into the curricula catalog of UCC China.

After the overview of SAP, Richard, Program Manager of Early Talent, gave a speech about career development with SAP. This is important and useful that everyone was extremely curious to know more in detail about the recruitment and the future development in SAP.

On 31st   there are 2  design thinking  workshops  executed in class room of School of Animation and Digital Arts, CUC.  The DT trainer for business innovation workshop is professor Ulrich Weinberg, Director of Design Thinking School at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam.

Professor Michael Barry from D.School at Sanford University and  Mr.Petromil Petkov, The Innovation Management and Concept Design at Audi China are the workshop coaches to help participants can fully understand every phase of Design Thinking. There were 31 participants from enterprise , academic and young entrepreneurs, among them 2 professors from Tongji University  and 1 Associate professor from Beijing University of technology were invited by UA China. This DT session is a mixture  of diversity, the team members are working in different industries and living in different regions across China even cross countries with different languages. The were 2 challenges given to the teams for chosen . The trainer led participants to go through each phase of the DT process starting from understand, observe, define, ideate, prototype till test. A lot of creative ideas come up during the one day workshop. It encouraged  everybody to feel innovative of oneself again.

The trainer for Social welfare DT workshop is Ms. Galina Emelina, lecturer of HPI in German. The challenge given to the team was “Redesign the transportation experience for commuters in Beijing”. Linda Fu from SAP CRS team joined and act as the volunteer to assist Galina in facilitating the session. There were over 30 participates from NGOs came and experience the DT process. There were fruitful prototypes coming out after the one day hardworking. All the attendees are so impressed by DT as the innovation methodology.

15 University Alliances students ambassador from School of Animation and Digital Arts, CUC helped out as volunteers to the 2-day summit. These young talents are all very interested in SAP and willing to take opportunities to learn more skills such as software UI design and user experience design.

After 2 days hardworking under the guidance of  UA manager they learned how cooperate with each other, what is effective team work and sense of responsibility. The volunteers are getting highly recognition VIPs of the summit. It was also a precious opportunity for them to attend DT workshop and get a clear picture of how DT as a methodology to help on innovative thinking and solving real problems.
