Industrial Engineering students at the University of Pretoria started using ESEFA curriculum as part of their 3rd year Operations Management course work. They will be using the Production Planning, Materials Management and Sales & Distribution modules.
Over the duration of the ESEFA project, the standard Global Bike Incorporated (GBI) curriculum of SAP University Alliances will be enhanced, evolved and expanded to be more suitable for students in the African context. This will include the addition of an additional company code to the dataset, based on a real life company in Zambia called Zambikes, well-known for, amongst others, the manufacturing of high-spec mountain bikes from bamboo. The product lines and business processes of Zambikes will be incorporated into GBI.
A video of Zambikes' operations will also be included in the theoretical enhancements being made to the GBI curriculum. The programme is further enhanced by the creation of modular lecture materials in the disciplines of Logistics, Industrial Engineering, IT/Computer Science, Information Systems/Business Analysis and Accounting, making it possible for African universities to seamlessly slot modularized versions of the programme into the various academic disciplines.
Under the leadership of Dr.Olufemi Adetujni, the Engineering students at UP is the first group who form part of this exciting journey.

About ESEFA
The ESEFA (Enterprise Systems Education for Africa) project aims to develop curricula and establish an African university community to deliver enterprise systems (ES) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) education courses that are accessible both on and offline to African students interested in broadening their ICT skillsets. The curriculum will be rolled out to 10 ESEFA partner universities in Africa during the 2014 to 2016 period.
The lead (or “Lighthouse”) partner is the University of Cape Town, who is also responsible for recruiting 10 other ESEFA partner universities, researching and effecting the required curriculum adaptations and rolling out the programme over the next three years. The University of Pretoria is the first university to join as ESEFA Partner.
The project is co-financed by DEG (Deutsche Investitions-und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH) with public funds from the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, together with SAP (AG).
