This 3-year Public-Private-Partnership project, with SAP University Alliances, the University of Cape Town’s Information Systems Department and the Otto-von-Guericke University (OvGU) of Magdeburg (Germany) as the main role-players, kicked off in September 2013. The project is co-financed by SAP (SE) and the DEG (Deutsche Investitions-und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH) with public funds from the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.


During the month of March 2016, the ESEFA university community trained its 3000th student on the Enterprise Systems Education for Africa (www.esefa.ac.za) curriculum. This remarkable feat has been achieved by the 13 ESEFA member universities, residing in 10 different African countries in Sub-Saharan region (South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Mauritius, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria and Ghana).

More than 130 professors and lecturers have also been qualified to teach the ESEFA curriculum at the respective member institutions.

The ESEFA project, under the leadership of the University of Cape Town, develops Enterprise Systems curriculum for academic teaching purposes (using SAP ERP as industry example) which then gets delivered via the ESEFA university network. The curriculum covers various business and management areas under topics such as Financial Accounting, Human Resources, Procurement, Sales, Production, Manufacturing and Inventory Management. The curriculum is relevant and can be taught in various academic disciplines, including Computer Science, Business Analysis, Industrial Engineering, Logistics Management and Accounting.
