PSEG has been a long time pioneer in the utilization of technology to support asset reliability since 2001 when their Asset Strategy Department developed Computerized Maintenance Management System ( CMMS ). Their system and approach has received numerous reviews and accolades over the past 13 years as it addresses a growing subset of PSEG’s electrical distribution asset classes while supporting their engineering organization in making informed decisions on when to perform maintenance and when repair versus replacement from centralized datasets.
This approach for many years yielded results that were impressive and helpful in reducing failures and making operational decisions for the utility, however the introduction of SAP Hana technology into the mix allowed PSEG to implement far more complex algorithmic models than had been previously done. Currently PSEG is taking advantage of their CMMS system approach and extending it to address the True Life of assets using industry standard algorithms published by IEEE.
The SAP and PSEG team was able to source a mix of OT and IT data from systems that included OSIsoft , Oil quality and condition data, internal tap and winding data into the C57.91-2011.Transformer Insulation aging acceleration and Loss of Life equations. The resulting insight was displayed using a map based user interface ( UI ) with extensive drill down capabilities. Additionally, the resulting information was fed back into the original CMMS system equations to improve their accuracy and usability to the engineers.
In the end this collaboration with SAP and OT vendors has allowed PSEG to push their technological asset management journey further more quickly down the road. The results are as much for today engineers and assets as they are for future engineers looking back at the multitude of data points and rich history that SAP places at their fingertips.
