Summary:

The aim is to have the same business partner ID and organizational unit ID like this:

organizational unit O_04000000 is linked to  business partner 0004000000

organizational unit O_04000001 is linked to  business partner 0004000001…

The advantages are:

  • the organizational model is more user-friendly
  • in case of specific development, the technical consultant has a direct mapping between business partner ID and organizational unit ID
  • if you transport the organizational model from Development system to Quality & Production system, you'll have the same IDs between all systems: it’s a behavior closer to customizing than to master data. It's more consulting-friendly.
  • improvement of reliability of transport the organizational model with program RHMOVE30

Steps of implementation

1/ Define range number of business partner

Prerequisite: the maximum length of the business partner ID is 8 digits (as this is the maximum length of organizational unit).

Ext: Flag it

Remark: the range number is external as the number will be provided by the organizational unit

Customizing path: SPRO > Cross-Application Components > SAP Business Partner > Business Partner > Basic Settings > Number Ranges and Groupings > Groupings

Grouping : Z0

Short Name: OrgUnit

3/ Define the range number of organizational unit

Check subgroup ‘01O’ entry exists. If answer is no, create it.

We use the internal range number, which is always 'IN' (for information the external range number is always 'EX').

Click on maintain range number, for subgroup ‘01O’.

Range number: IN
