I have been asked recently by one of my customers: We have out Warm Standby Replication solution, which is good. But why should we not switch to cluster edition instead?...
This is a question that often comes out: which solution is better for a particular type of client? Why should we use Sybase Replication Server at all - there are "simpler" clustering and data duplication solutions around. Why relying/paying more $ to database vendors?
The answer is really very simple: you don't have to pay for things you don't really need. But before you decide what you pay for, you must know well what you receive for the money you invest in a particular solution and how it fits your particular situation.
I will put it very briefly here - the decision is often very simple and it boils down to this dilemma (is it dilemma at all, I wonder). What is it you need to protect? Your data or your SLA? Usually both... Which reminds us of the following diagram....
