First, I saw this from thierry.audas on twitter:


So of course I had to check it out.

First, it helps to be on the latest patches of BusinessObjects Analysis Office (SP5) and Design Studio 1.0 SP1

Also, both tools need to be either "local" or "on the platform".

I tried it local first.

First, start off in Analysis Office, and save your workbook.

Then, right-click your workbook and select "Smart Copy" (note the help says "Export Data Source") - thanks to alexander.peter for alerting me to Smart Copy

Then open your Design Studio Application

In the Outline section, right click on Data Source and select Paste External Data Source

Another way is to select right click on Layout as shown below:

Once you have done this, it is available as a data source to Design Studio, similar to the way a BEx Query is a data source.  Then you can drag it over and assign it to the Crosstab.

Then the Design Studio application can be deployed as normal either to the browser or the iPad.

So this is part of the "interoperability" of Analysis suite.
