Introduction

SAP NetWeaver Landscape Virtualization Management helps customers to simplify and optimize the provisioning, deployment, and management of their SAP Systems through the use of virtualization and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud technology. One of its key features is a framework for SAP system cloning, copy and refresh, including fully automated post-copy tasks, eliminating manual effort. Customers can use it to reduce the total cost of operations of their SAP system landscape and enhance their flexibility and business agility.

To get a first impression of the automated activities for Java system copies and refreshes, this document provides short demos of the execution of corresponding task lists with the stand-alone task manager for lifecycle management automation. Java post-copy automation automates basis activities that are valid for all systems based on SAP NetWeaver Application Server Java. It can be executed either integrated in the end-to-end process of SAP NetWeaver Landscape Virtualization Management (not demoed here) or stand-alone (see demos below).

Export of Existing Configuration Settings for System Refresh

For the refresh of an existing Java system, you start the stand-alone task manager (which is a self-contained executable) and select the prepare system refresh task list. There, you enter basic parameters of the existing Java system (such as host name, HTTP port and administrator credentials - required by the tool to be able to connect to the corresponding Java system), before you select the configuration data you want to export from the existing Java system (such as connection data or security settings). The tool then exports the configuration settings, before the Java system gets refreshed with the latest data from the source system:

After the execution, performed activities can be checked in the available log file, offering full transparency.

Instead of entering all required parameters every time you run a process, you can also create a variant. This makes it possible to store expert knowledge directly in the tool, so that repeated execution gets easier, faster and could be delegated. Even if (some or all) parameters are already stored in the variant, they could be adapted in the course of the execution.

A variant is prerequisite for an integrated execution as part of the end-to-end system copy and refresh process within SAP NetWeaver Landscape Virtualization Management.

Post-Copy Automation (With Optional Import of Exported Settings)

After the refresh of an existing system or the creation of a new system as copy of the source system, you select the post-copy configuration task list in the stand-alone task manager. Also here, you can create variants to speed up the procedure and make it easier and delegable as shown in the recorded demo:

You can select what connection and security data copied from the source system shall be cleaned up, what settings in case of a system refresh you want to import from the configuration settings export created above, and what additional configuration parameters you want the tool to set in the copied system.

All selected activities get then performed by the stand-alone task manager, making the overall system copy experience easier, faster and more reliable.
