In this article, I will try to discuss some of the common use case scenarios for SAP TDMS 4.0 BPL. But first, let me start with a small introduction to the product itself. TDMS BPL allows users to transfer business processes-specific production system data to a test or quality system. BPL contains a large number of business processes, such as Material Management, Accounting Documents, or Customer Data. Users can provide selection criteria for the business process to reduce the size of the data to be transferred.
It is suggested to use TDMS 4.0 BPL for transferring a small set of data such as selective sales orders. TDMS 4.0 BPL should not be used for large amount of data transfer such as transferring all sales orders.
Now I’ll pen down some of the most commonly-used scenarios for TDMS 4.0 BPL.
Use Case #1: You have completed a TDMS ERP time-based transfer and you discover that some sales order-related data is missing in the receiver system.
This is one of the most common scenarios for the use of TDMS 4.0 BPL. After an initial data transfer using one of the TDMS solutions for the SAP Business Suite, sometimes some data may end up missing in the receiver system.
In this example, we find that after an initial data transfer using the ERP time-based scenario, sales order data is incomplete in the receiver system. This might result in issues arising during the testing process. In such a scenario, we can use the TDMS 4.0 standard BPL object BC – Process: Sales Order.
You will need to provide the sales order numbers of the missing data in the receiver system to complete the transfer. In case you have some Z tables related to Sales Order in the production system, you can copy the standard BPL object to a custom BPL object and add your relevant Z tables to this object. This will allow you to transfer the SAP standard tables and the custom tables together.
Use Case #2: You have completed a TDMS ERP time-based transfer and you discover that the accounting data related to a purchase order is corrupt in the receiver system.
There are chances that after an initial data transfer using one of the TDMS solutions for the SAP Business Suite, some corrupted data might end up in the receiver system.
In this example, we find that the accounting data related to a few purchase orders is corrupt in the receiver system after an initial data transfer using the TDMS time-based solution for SAP ERP. In such a scenario, you can either go ahead by using the TDMS 4.0 standard object Accounting Data or by using the BC – Process: Purchase Order.
If you decide to go ahead with the standard object Accounting Data, you will need to know the accounting document numbers for the corrupted objects in the receiver system.
If you decide to use the BC –Process: Purchase Order, you can goahead by using the purchase order numbers.
Use case #3: You need to transfer all data related to a project in the Project Systems workspace.
As TDMS 4.0 BPL is best suited for business processes-based data transfer, this turns out to be a perfect scenario for its use. Many customers use SAP Project Systems (SAP PS). SAP PS is integrated with multiple SAP functional areas. Now, many a time, you might need to use a particular project data for testing purposes. With the use of TDMS 4.0 BPL, you can achieve this easily.
TDMS 4.0 BPL comes with a standard object for the Project Systems business process. You can use this standard object to transfer all the data related to a particular project from your production system to the test or quality system.
Use Case #4: You want to transfer the number ranges from the production system to the receiver system.
With the help of TDMS 4.0 BPL, you can use the standard BPL object Number Ranges to transfer the number range data from the production system to the quality or test system. This can be useful in situations where a TDMS solution for the SAP Business Suite has already been executed, but where the number ranges in the TDMS receiver system are not as required.
Use Case #5: You want to transfer a set of Z tables from the production system to the quality or test system.
With TDMS 4.0 BPL, you have the option of creating a custom BPL object to transfer data from the production system to the quality or test system. This allows you to create a custom BPL object containing Z tables, which you need to transfer to the quality or test system. You can also copy a standard BPL object like Asset Master and add your relevant Z tables to the copied BPL object. In this way, you can transfer data of the SAP standard tables and your Z tables relating to a specific business process.
