SAP NetWeaver PI 7.3 introduces an improved set of web tools to monitor the complete PI installation:

Key New Monitoring Features:

  • User Defined Message Search

          

               1. Logical connections (and/or)

               2. Interface Independent

  • Message Status Detail


              1. Shows the errors and error category “inlined” with the message.

  • IDoc Status

              1. IDoc adapter status also integrated in message monitoring

  • Download messages and payload in NWA

  • Ping Adapter Status


              1. Retrieves adapter information at runtime User

New Monitoring Features at a Glance:


User-Defined Message Search in Message Monitoring:

  • Payload fields are extracted during message processing, and stored in an index table
  • Only for messages that meet specific filter criteria
  • Index is archived together with message
  • Payload search integrated into local message monitoring on each component
  • Search for all attributes (AND) or search for at least one attribute (OR)
  • User-defined attributes are displayed for each message (if available)

Configuring User-Defined Message Search:

  • Configuration steps:


          1. Define Filters for Indexing

  • For each filter, define Extractors

Access the “Integration Engine” (Adapter for Web Services runs in the Integration Engine):


Start the “Message Monitor” for Database messages:

User-Defined Message Search in Message monitoring :

This is the Web browser based version of ABAP transaction SXI_MONITOR, which you could also run in the SAPGUI.

User-Defined Search :

  • Change the time range to cover August 2010

  • Switch  to the “User-Defined Selection Criteria” tabstrip.

  •   Search for these attributes:

                 SURNAME like “Fly*”
                 FIRSTNAME = “Fred”
                 Then click on “Execute”.

  • Select date and time (start time) columns, by keeping the “Control” key pressed and clicking in the table headers

  • Sort descending by clicking
    the “     ” icon.

  • Select the first row (last message with that selection criteria) and execute
    ” to see the extracted information from the message payload.

  • As you can see, the message contains information from several persons, including Fred.


  • Execute “Display“ to see the message details


IDOC Monitor:

  • Analyze the IDoc Metadeta
  • Obtain an overview of the IDoc message traffic
    • Search IDocs
    • Access payload and control record
    • Monitor acknowledgements
