Displaying of Only critical Activities

In any Project there will be some critical activities.

Most of the time the Planning department may want to see only the critical activities in the Gnatt Chart to have a proper judge of the criticality of the Project.

The best way to see the critical activities is to view Gnatt Chart. In the Gnatt chart by default all the activities are displayed along with the WBS elements. Sometimes the client asks to see only the critical activities. A couple of settings are required in the Project Planning Board to view only the critical Activities.

A simple Project is created with a few WBS elements & Internal activities.

In the Project Planning Board 4 activities are critical. In any practical project there will be 1000s of activities. So, manually segregating them is not possible.

Let us first see only the activities and hide the WBS elements.

Edit>Show/Hide>Hide WBS elements.

Now we are having only the activities. In any Project you will be having both Internal as well as external, service activities. Normally Internal Activities are used for scheduling. So it is always better to highlight only the internal activities.

Select from “Highlight Object” icon.

GO to “Select Grouping criteria” and select Basic total Float.

Now as you see all the critical activities are clubbed together at one place and activity with a float is shown below.

Even you can see the Basic total Float.

You can also select Basic Free float.

This is one Option of Displaying Critical Activities at one Place. The other option is through sorting.

Select Basic Total Float in the Table Area. Sort for < 1.

So only the critical activities will be shown.

But in the 2nd option the details of the Float of other activities will not be shown.

Now you can save as User specific data.

Suggestions & Comments appreciated.
