When talking about Transient Providers (for more info see What are Transient Providers?   See if you have BW inside your ERP System ) I am often asked, especially by administrators, "but what about performance?"

My usual answer is run a report using transaction SQ01 to test performance.

But after following some of the discussions in the other forums, I finally thought about using transaction RSRT inside your ECC/ERP system, which is the Query Monitor transaction.  This transaction is available in your BW system, and with enhancement package 5 you can activate BW inside your ECC, thus transaction RSRT is available.

Above shows the RSRT transaction inside your ECC.  The "@" sign indicates it is a transient provider.

Above is the result of executing the BEx Query against the transient provider.  It is a good way to test performance and then start using your BusinessObjects/BI tools against that query.

I also noticed other features of RSRT inside ECC:

The above shows running RSRT with the ABAP BICS feature selected.

Above is the BEx Analyzer option.

You can even run the report as a BEx Broadcasting and distribute it out that way.

So before using your ECC BEx Query against the BI tools such as SAP BusinessObjects Analysis, edition for Microsoft Office or SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence test the performance of your query with RSRT.
