1         Prerequists

You need to understand SAP testing terminologies. This documentation provides an overview of what all activities are involved in SAP BW testing. To understand SAP BW from testing perspective major prerequisite is to understand SAP testing and SAP BW.

1.1        Purpose of SAP Testing:

During the entire life cycle of a SAP solution, it is necessary to test the functions and performance of your solution. With the SAP Test Workbench, SAP provides you with an environment for all test phases, which you can use for testing in the following cases:

  • Implementation of SAP solutions
  • Integration of new components and business scenarios
  • Customer developments
  • Function tests
  • Integration tests with other components
  • Upgrades, regression tests
  • Understanding SAP solution with the help of initial documentation and requirement specification.
  • Creation of manual and/or automated test cases
  • Management of manual and/or automated test cases
  • Creation of test plans
  • Definition and management of test series
  • Execution of test cases and record the results of these executions using the some testing tool such as HP QC, HP ALM, etc.
  • Records the issues found in the above mentioned tools.
  • Track these issues and get these resolved or get them processed further.
  • Link these test cases to the requirements (good for tracking purpose)
  • Permanent overview of test progress and test results
  • Complete documentation of test processes in the test plans (test cases, test case descriptions, test results, test case notes, error messages)
  • Detailed tabular and graphical evaluation of all test plans

1.2        Primary activities in sap testing:

1.2.1       Test Preparation

  • Understanding SAP solution with the help of initial documentation and requirement specification.
  • Creation of manual and/or automated test cases
  • Management of manual and/or automated test cases
  • Creation of test plans
  • Definition and management of test series

          

1.2.2       Test Execution

  • Execution of test cases and record the results of these executions using the some testing tool such as HP QC, HP ALM, etc.
  • Records the issues found in the above mentioned tools.
  • Track these issues and get these resolved or get them processed further.
  • Link these test cases to the requirements (good for tracking purpose)

1.2.3       Test Evaluation

 

  • Permanent overview of test progress and test results
  • Complete documentation of test processes in the test plans (test cases, test case descriptions, test results, test case notes, error messages)
  • Detailed tabular and graphical evaluation of all test plans & sending Reports to client on the basis of testing covered on some set frequency (Daily, Weekly, and Monthly)

1.3        Case Study for Reference

1.3.1       Client Information:

Client is a major British Financial Institution and deals majorly in – Wholesale, Retail Banking, Investment Banking, Asset Management, Wealth Management etc. It has presence across the globe (UK, US, Europe, Asia, Middle East) to service the needs of Customers & Clients.

1.3.2       Project XXXX:

This project consists of a GL solution implemented in BW with the help of 3 Special ledger Data sources from ECC. This is a SAP testing project with BW integration with BO and BFC via FIM, BOEA. We have to perform Testing for ECC integration with BW, SAP BW (LSA), BOEA, SAP BW Reporting objects, BEx objects.
