With version 1.2.3 of its iOS app, SAP Mobile Documents offers a valuable integration with SAP Workforce Performance Builder. SAP Mobile Documents is now capable of playing back SLC files directly within the iOS client.

What’s an SLC file?

First off, SLC is short for SAP Learning Content. SLC is a file format that is offered for publishing in SAP’s learning authoring environment SAP Workforce Performance Builder Producer & Instant Producer. An SLC file usually contains certain learning content, be it simulations, documentations and/or books (presentations).

What are the benefits of the integration?

The integration allows users of SAP Mobile Documents and SAP Workforce Performance Builder to easily distribute their learning content to the mobile devices connected to SAP Mobile Documents. All they need to do for that is to set up a corresponding folder in the Corporate section and publish their content to that folder directly from within SAP Workforce Performance Builder Producer or Instant Producer (Figure 1). The published SLC files will be available for consumption to all employees connected instantly after the initial upload. This simplifies and speeds up the distribution of learning material throughout a company to a vast extend compared to the classic roll-out scenarios of learning material.

Another great benefit is the fact that you are able to store the SLC learning content directly on the corresponding device, eliminating the need for a persistent network connection. All the user needs to do for that is to activate the Offline Access Sync feature (Figure 2) in SAP Mobile Documents for the respective SLC file(s) that should be available even if offline.

Where will we go from here?

Next up in the integration efforts is providing full SLC playback support for Android devices. Furthermore SAP Mobile Documents and SAP Workforce Performance Builder teams will stay in touch and they will evaluate further integration scenarios based on our customers’ feedback.
