The SAP HANA Academy’s tahirhussain.babar details how to access the various SAP HANA offerings via a high-level chalkboard overview. Bob highlights the differences between SAP HANA On-Premise, the SAP HANA Cloud Platform (HCP), SAP Cloud Appliance Library (SAP CAL), and SAP HANA One in Amazon Web Services (AWS). Also, Bob shows where the SAP HANA Academy’s tutorials for the many of the SAP HANA services and technologies can be easily found.

SAP HANA On-Premise & SAP HANA Client (0:28 – 2:13)

There are many ways of instantiating your own instance of SAP HANA. One is to install SAP HANA On-Premise.  To see how to install the latest version of SAP HANA, SAP HANA SPS08, visit the SAP HANA Academy and view the SAP HANA Installations-SPS08 playlist.

SAP HANA Client and SAP HANA Studio are used to access SAP HANA. The SAP HANA Client and SAP HANA Studio can be installed on Linux, Mac, and/or Windows.

The SAP HANA Academy’s SAP HANA Studio playlist details how to install and connect SAP HANA Studio. The playlist also covers how to model using SAP HANA Studio and walks through how to perform administration tasks.

SAP HANA Cloud Based Solutions (2:13-4:01)

Other ways to instantiate your SAP HANA system include using Amazon Web Services (AWS) and SAP Cloud Appliance Library (CAL). The beginning of the SAP HANA Academy’s HANA Live2 course details how to create an AWS version of SAP HANA One.

To view the other providers for SAP HANA One in addition to AWS please visit the SCN page for the SAP HANA Developer Edition.

To access a whole series of Images launch your own SAP Cloud Appliance Library by visiting this page and signing up for CAL.

SAP HANA Cloud Platform (4:01 –5:50)

SAP HANA Cloud Platform provides instant access to a SAP HANA System. Differing from the other offerings, HCP connects to the client via a tunnel. The tunnel ensures that only you see your data within HCP.

Two versions of HCP exist. In HCP you own your own instance while in HCP Dev the instance is shared with multiple users.

The SAP HANA Academy has a compressive playlist detailing how to install the necessary tools to quickly starting using the SAP HANA Cloud Platform.

SAP HANA Technologies (5:50 – 8:11)

Now once your client is connected to SAP HANA through either of the various offerings you can carry out all of your tasks within the SAP HANA Studio. With SAP HANA Studio you can work on mobile development, use predictive functionality, program and develop using XSJS, perform administration tasks, and/or do analysis, such text analysis.

The SAP HANA Academy contains multiple tutorial playlists on Predictive Analytics, Development, SAP River, Administration, Provisioning using Smart Data Access, and Analytics. The final section of the SAP HANA Academy contains playlists on combining various aspects of these technologies to build solutions.

When using HCP compared to using SAP HANA as a service certain functions are not necessary because SAP does that work. Also, be aware of the certain limitations of the free developer editions of HCP.

Whatever technology you are using within SAP HANA the entry point to your SAP HANA systems will be via the SAP HANA Studio.

Check out Bob’s video on accessing the various offerings and technologies of SAP HANA and where to locate the specific tutorial videos available for each on the SAP HANA Academy.
