[Update: April 5th, 2016 -  The Live3 on HCP tutorial series was created using the SAP HANA Cloud Platform free developer trial landscape in January 2015. The HCP landscape has significantly evolved over the past year. Therefore one may encounter many issues while following along with the series using the most recent version of the free developer trail edition of HCP.]

In this video philip.mugglestone from the SAP HANA Academy introduces the Live3 course. The course will show end-to-end how to build a real-time social media analytics application using the SAP HANA Cloud Platform. The Live3 project can be followed along by anyone for free.

Please watch Philip's introductory video below.

(0:20 – 4:57) Overview of the Live3 Scenario

First in the Live3 course we will access real-time social media information using Twitter. Specific tweets will be pulled out in real-time using a Twitter API, processed, and then loaded into a SAP HANA database. The SAP HANA database will be hosted on the developer trail edition of the SAP HANA Cloud Platform.

Once the data has been loaded we will preform further analysis. Sentiment analysis can determine if people are tweeting positive or negative statements. Using the Predictive Analysis Library we can group and segment the different types of tweeters. For example, we can determine who is influential due to a high number of followers and retweets and then group the influential tweeters who are expressing negative thoughts about a product together. We can then possibly target that group with an educational outreach program.

In order to get at the information we will build native web services within the SAP HANA platform using OData and XSJS. To analyze the data a HTML5 application will be built that can run on either a Google Chrome web browser or a mobile devise.

Many components are involved in the SAP HANA Academy Live3 course including Twitter API, SAP HANA Cloud Platform, SAP HANA database and SAP HANA Cloud Platform HTML5 applications and cockpit. Whether you’re using a Windows, Mac or Linux machine for the course you will need tools such as Eclipse EE Luna to run SAP HANA Cloud Platform and SAP HANA. We will use Node.js, a free open source Google Chrome run-time, to talk with the Twitter API and load the data into SAP HANA.

Step-by-step instructions on how-to install the tools will be shown throughout the course. This course has no prerequisites so you can build this solution from end-to-end using any ‘vanilla’ machine.
