[SAP HANA Academy] Live3: Register for SAP HANA Cloud Platform Trial

[Update: April 5th, 2016 -  The Live3 on HCP tutorial series was created using the SAP HANA Cloud Platform free developer trial landscape in January 2015. The HCP landscape has significantly evolved over the past year. Therefore one may encounter many issues while following along with the series using the most recent version of the free developer trail edition of HCP.]

In the second video of the SAP HANA Academy’s Live3 course philip.mugglestone shows how to register for a free SAP HANA Cloud Platform developer trail account. Philip also details how to create a SAP HANA instance within the developer account. Watch the video below.

(0:20 – 2:50) Creating a SAP HANA Cloud Platform Developer Trail Account

Throughout the course Philip will be using a standard version of Windows with Google Chrome and Notepad++ installed. In Chrome Philip visits the SAP HANA Cloud Platform landing page by entering the URL account.hanatrail.ondemand.com. If you already have a SAP ID or a SCN account you should be able to automatically log on.

If you don't have a SAP ID or SCN account then click on the Register button and on the following page enter your credentials and agree to privacy statement and user agreement. Next go to your email and verify your information by clicking the link in the email generated by the SAP HANA Cloud Platform to activate your free developer trail account. Now you can log in to your SAP HANA Cloud Platform cockpit.

Note the p number that is listed under Account. We will be using this p number many times through out the course.

(2:50 – 4:30) Creating a SAP HANA Instance

To create a SAP HANA Instance to work on click on HANAInstances on left hand side under the content menu and then select New Trail Instance. Philip highly recommends naming the new trail instance dev as it will allow for minimal changes down the line, as the instance name will be referred to many times later on in the scenario.

Click save to create a SAP HANA trail instance in a shared HANA XS Database System. If you click on Account Dashboard you can verify that the HANA XS instance has been enabled.
