[Update: April 5th, 2016 -  The Live3 on HCP tutorial series was created using the SAP HANA Cloud Platform free developer trial landscape in January 2015. The HCP landscape has significantly evolved over the past year. Therefore one may encounter many issues while following along with the series using the most recent version of the free developer trail edition of HCP.]

In this tutorial video the SAP HANA Academy’s philip.mugglestone details how to download and install specific tool that will enable you to use the SAP HANA Cloud Platform for the Live3 course. Watch the video below.

(0:30 – 2:15) Overview of Required SAP HANA Cloud Platform Tools

In the SAP HANA Cloud Platform cockpit click on the Tools button in the top to be directed to tools.hana.ondemand.com. Then click on the CLOUD tab to view the available tools.

In order to work with the SAP HANA XS Instance from the client side we first need to install Eclipse EE Luna and then some specific SAP HANA Cloud Platform tools available in Eclipse Luna.

The two tools that need to be installed are the SAP HANA Cloud Platform SDK and the Eclipse Enterprise Edition.

(2:15 – 3:50) How to Install a JDK

The one prerequisite for using Eclipse is a Java Virtual Machine (JVM). Also later on we are going to use the SAP HANA Cloud Connector and we will need a Java Development Kit (JDK).

Go to java.com and click on the Developers link at the bottom of the page. On the following page click on the JDK downloads link. On the next page select the JDK download button in the Java version 7 section. Accept the license and then choose the appropriate download link for the machine you're working on.

Once the file has been downloaded, open the file up and select Run. Follow the menus and leave the default selections to successfully install the JDK.

(3:50 – 4:45) How to install the SAP HANA Cloud Platform SDK

Back on the Tools page select the zip file in the download column for the Java Web option for the SAP HANA Cloud Platform SDK. In your downloads folder extract the SDK file to a sub folder. Drag and drop the extracted folder to the C drive so later on you can get at it using a command line tool.

(4:45 – 6:05) How to install Eclipse

Back on the HCP Tools page click on the Eclipse link to be directed to eclipse.org/downloads/. You can use either Eclipse Luna or Kepler but Philip recommends Luna as it’s the most recent version. Depending on your machine choose to download either a 64 or 32 bit version of Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers.

Once the download is completed, Philip suggests removing many of the words from the downloaded folder's name and just leaving it as ‘eclipse.zip’. Right click on the renamed folder, choose Extract All and then follow the simple wizard. Once the folder has been extracted, drag and drop it to the C drive.

(6:05 – 9:45) How to Install SAP HANA Cloud Platform and SAP HANA Tools

Copy this link (https://tools.hana.ondemand.com/luna) from the Tools webpage and open Eclipse. Choose to run Eclipse and select the default workspace. In the workbench open the Help menu and choose to install new software. Paste the link into the Work with: text box and click on the Add button.

Name your repository – Philip names his LunaHCP – and click ok. The link will go to that website and find all of the tools that you need. Select the SAP HANA Cloud Platform Tools and the SAP HANA Tools and then click next. Click next again on the following screen and then agree to the licenses before clicking finish.

Once the installations are completed you need to restart Eclipse. Now in the Eclipse welcome screen there should be many new SAP HANA specific options including Open Administration Console, Open Modeler and Open Development.

Philip’s video shows you how to install the prerequisite JDK, the SAP HANA Cloud Platform SDK, Eclipse EE Luna, and the SAP HANA Cloud Platform and SAP HANA Eclipse tools.
