Authentication methods for Create an OLAP Connection to SAP BW using BICS in SAP Business Objects:

     OLAP - Online analytical processing

     BICS – Business Intelligence consumer services

The OLAP connection to connect to SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse (BW) from SAP Business Objects by using Business Intelligence Consumer Services (BICS).

Three types of Authentications

  1. Prompt
  2. Pre-Defined
  3. SSO

Prompt;

                The Prompt option forces users to specify SAP BW credentials every time they run a query in a Business Objects report using this OLAP Connection.

Pre-defined:

                The Pre-defined option sets a specific user name and password for the OLAP Connection that will be used for all users whenever they run a query in a SAP BO report based on this OLAP Connection. Users will not be prompted for a user name and password at the time of executing the query, and all users viewing BO reports based on this connection will see the same result set.

SSO:

The Single Sign-On (SSO) option captures a user’s SAP BW credentials from the user’s current BO platform log on, and passes the credentials to the SAP BW server when the user runs a query in a BO document based on password at the time of executing the query, and all users viewing BO documents based on this connection will see only records they are personally entitled to see.
