Hello all,

I am writing this blog for all of them who want to participate in the Data Geek Challenge IV.

I experienced very perplexed situation when I was willing to participate in Data Geek Challenge III. There were many questions on top of my mind like from where to start?, what is this SAP Lumira tool all about?, Will I be able to work on this tool?, How to analyse data files using this tool?, From where to download the data files? The list is too long right?:p

At the end I was not able to find answers to my questions and missed the deadline to participate in the Data Geek III challenge. Now this time I have successfully submitted my entry in Data geek challenge. Here is link to my blog. I thought there might be so many of us who are also facing same issues/ questions like me, so here I am writing this blog.

1. Very first step is to accept the challenge: D, Which is the very easy step. Almost everyone has done it.

Here in this blog I will be explaining about the SAP Lumira Cloud tool. You can access the SAP Lumira Cloud using below link:

https://cloud.saplumira.com/

2. Create your account on SAP Lumira cloud and main step is done herewith this. It is free cloud service provided by SAP.

3. Then all you need to do is search for the data. There are many sites available from where you can download the data files. Below blog will help you for quickly finding the sites:

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-31433

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-42845

Download the data from any of the sites mentioned in above blogs, which sounds interesting to you for analysing. The data file must be of “.csv”/ “.xlxs” format.

Afterwards upload the data file in SAP Lumira cloud, so that file will be handy for you at any time you log in in cloud. And click on the create dataset button as shown in below screenshot:

4. Browse your file by clicking on browse button. Press the acquire button.

You will get the screen where you can actually create many kinds of visualizations.

As I mention right in the above sentence, there are several options for visualization. Below is the list for all of them:

For each of the above visualization category shown in above diagram, there are further more options available, which you can explore. This tool is very easy to use for analysis purpose. As the names only suggest what that particular visualization is all about.

Let’s explore all visualization with its available sub options:

     1. Bar and Column chart

Different types of bar and column chart visualizations are available like Bar chart, Column chart, stacked bar chart, stacked column chart, bar chart with 2 X-Axis, Column chart with 2 Y-Axis, 3D column chart, 100% Marimekko Chart. By clicking each one if this you will get different visualization effect.

     2. Line Chart

Visualizations are shown on the lines. Below are the available options under this: Line chart, Line chart for date/ time series, area chart, combined column chart, combined stacked line chart, Line chart with 2 Y axes, combined column chart with 2 Y-Axes, combined column chart with 2 X-Axes.

     3. Pie Chart

Three kinds of pie charts can be visualized. They are pie charts, Donut chart and Pie with depth chart.

     4. Geographic Chart

As per the geographic conditions visualizations are generated. Geo Bubble Chart, Geo Choropleth Chart, Geo Pie Chart are the three type of charts available.

     5. Scatter Charts

As the name says this visualization shows data in scatter manner. Below 3 are the types of chats available under this: Scatter plot, Bubble chart, scatter matrix chart.

     6. Map Charts

There are two kinds of charts are available under this, they are Heat map and Tree map.

     7. Tables

Using this option one can see the tabular visualization of data.

     8. Numbers

By using this visualization you will get the total number i.e. Sum/addition of the measures/ X axis.

     9. Other Charts

In spite of above mentioned all visualization types, here under this all other types of charts are provided. They are like Box plot, Funnel chart, Network chart, Parallel Coordinate chart, Radar Chart, Tag cloud, Tree and waterfall charts.

5. Dimensions/ Measures and Color:

In order to show the graphical representation of data, you must have to select the dimensions and measures. The measures will be shown on the X axis and Dimensions will be shown on the Y axis. You can also play with the colors, by clicking on the colors button. Below is the snapshot of the part of screen where you have to select the dimensions and measures.

Hope this blog will help you all to participate in the Data Geek Challeng.
