Data Specifications (period)

This is another important part of the understanding of how structural profile works. Period is a field that you must fill during your configuration of a structural profile and it determines which object you will see according his validity date.

In the configuration exists six different types of period each one represented by one character accordingly the table that follows.

<blank>

All

D

Fixed date

M

Actual month

Y

Actual year

P

History

F

Future

The main types used are <blank>, D, M and Y but to understand how this field works we will put here two examples.

  • First of all, imagine today as February 29th, 2016;
  • Consider that independently the rest of the configuration, the period is set as blank;

In this case, the first date that the system will consider is always January 1, 1900.

Now imagine that you have O1 and O2 linked with the date January 1, 2000 to December 31, 9999. You system will now consider the date January 1, 2000 to December 31, 9999.

Now imagine that you have O2 and S1 linked with January 1, 2014 to December 31, 9999.

In this case, the system will provide you with the window of January 1, 2014 (date of the beginning of the position) to December 31, 9999 (final date of the system).

By the look of the starting point, there is no problem but the option will make that once a manager can sees a person, this person will be always available to this manager even after, he is no longer manager of this person.

  • Let us consider now that independently the rest of the configuration, the field period is set as D.

In this case, the system date considered is always the actual date, so considering that today is February 29, 2016, the system date will be February 29, 2016.

This means that the manager can see only the objects that the infotype 1001 is active today.

This logic follow the other types of period so in order to configure your structural profile, you must also think about when and for how long your manager should see an employee after he is no longer his manager.
