Managing Transports in Heterogeneous Landscapes
The Change and Transport System (CTS) helps you to organize development projects in ABAP Workbench and in Customizing, and then transport the changes between the SAP systems in your system landscape. In addition to ABAP objects, you can also transport Java objects (J2EE, JEE) and SAP-specific (such as Web Dynpro Java or SAP Enterprise Portal) as well as other non-ABAP technologies (for details see ‘Implement CTS+ for Your Application’) in your landscape. You can find guides for configuring CTS+ for various applications on the CTS+ Resources page here on SCN.
Implement CTS+ for your Application
Starting with CTS Plug-In 2.0 SP14 (part of SL Toolset 1.0 SP12), you can implement the import part by using http communication. By this, you do not need an AS Java for your CTS system, any more. An AS ABAP is sufficient. The guide 'How To... Implement CTS+ for Your Application' has been updated accordingly.
SAP HANA SPS 09
With SAP HANA SPS09, you can now also configure CTS+ on a CTS system without an AS Java. SAP HANA Application Lifecycle Management (HALM) offers new possibilities in the area of Assembly and Installation. For more information on what is new in HALM in SAP HANA SPS 09, take a look at the presentation SAP HANA SPS 09 - What’s New? SAP HANA Application Lifecycle Management. A guide describing the configuration of CTS+ for SAP HANA SPS09 is available here on SCN.
For an in-depth presentation on HALM, refer to the SAP HANA Application Lifecycle Management (HALM).
The CM Services can help you to manage your Java development on SAP NetWeaver integrated with CTS+. There is now also a guide available which explains How to configure CM Services in SAP NetWeaver 7.3 and up. The guide How To Switch to CM Services has been updated and covers SAP NetWeaver 7.3 and higher as well.
You can now use Change Request Management and Quality Gate Management (QGM) based on the cCTS infrastructure. This new option is available starting with SAP Solution Manager 7.1 SP10. Many nice new features are based on cCTS. One of these that you might like a lot is that you are now very flexible when having to (re-)assign transport requests and changes.
More information is available in the SAP Solution Manager Learning Map on the SAP Service Marketplace in the section Change Control Management (SMP Login required).
A HowTo which guides you through the configuration steps for the cCTS Infrastructure is available here on SCN.

More on CTS
Because the CTS is very well adopted and has been for quite some time, this selection especially focuses on the enhancements that allow transporting non-ABAP objects with the CTS and are not as widely known. With Change & Transport System (CTS, usage type AS ABAP) and the Development Infrastructure (usage type DI based on AS JAVA) SAP NetWeaver provides a comprehensive set of functions to control transports in both ABAP and Java environments. Since SAp NetWeaver 7.0 SPS 12, the Change and Transport System (CTS, SAP NetWeaver usage type AS ABAP)can also be used to transport non-ABAP objects e.g. from the SAP NetWeaver usage types PI (Exchange Infrastructure), EP (Portal), etc.
When referring to these enhancements, we often use "CTS+" to highlight this fact.
Enhancement Package 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 offers new options for CTS+. You can now for instance transport activities directly from within the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio. In addition, it is now possible to work on the same transport request in teams. Take a look at this presentation get details on the new functionality.
This guide explains the architecture and main components of the enhanced Change and Transport System. You will find an overview of the relevant CTS+ components and configuration steps in general. In addition, you will find descriptions for system landscapes and examples on how to configure simple and complex system landscapes supporting different use cases.
This article describes how the enhanced CTS+ capabilities further simplifies system administration of an SAP system landscape.
