Change and Transport System

Managing Transports in Heterogenous Landscapes

The Change and Transport System (CTS) helps you to organize development projects in ABAP Workbench and in Customizing, and then transport the changes between the SAP systems in your system landscape. In addition to ABAP objects, you can also transport Java objects (J2EE, JEE) and SAP-specific (such as Web Dynpro Java or SAP NetWeaver Portal) as well as other non-ABAP technologies (for details see ‘Implement CTS+ for Your Application’) in your landscape.

What's New

Implement CTS+ for Your Application

Starting with SL Toolset 1.0 SP2, you do now have the option to use CTS+ also for Applications where CTS+ support is not shipped by SAP. Take a look at the guide 'How To... Implement CTS+ for Your Application' for details. If you would like to learn more how to get the required software and what else the latest SP of SL Toolset 1.0 offers, read the blog ‘SL Toolset 1.0 SPS 07: New and improved Software Logistics Tools' by Boris Rubarth.

CM Services

The CM Services can help you to manage your Java development on SAP NetWeaver. In a new How-To guide, you can find out about the options and configuration tasks if you would like to use the CM Services with enhancement package 2 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0. The guide about how to switch to CM Services has been updated and covers now enhancement package 2 for SAP NetWeaver as well. A presentation shows details about what CM Services offer with SAP NetWeaver 7.3.

Change Recording

Starting with SAP NetWeaver 7.3, you can use Change Recording to manage your changes for portal content. Changes done for PCD objects will be stored in changelists. You can revert the changes, use the changelist for transporting the changes to another portal system and even transport deletions as they are recorded as well. A How-To guide, a video and Change Recording? For the SAP NetWeaver Portal? showing more details are available here on SDN.

More on CTS

Because the CTS is very well adopted and has been for quite some time, this selection especially focuses on the enhancements that allow transporting non-ABAP objects with the CTS and are not as widely known. With Change & Transport System (CTS, usage type AS ABAP) and the Development Infrastructure (usage type DI based on AS JAVA) SAP NetWeaver provides a comprehensive set of functions to control transports in both ABAP and Java environments. Since SAp NetWeaver 7.0 SPS 12, the Change and Transport System (CTS, SAP NetWeaver usage type AS ABAP)can also be used to transport non-ABAP objects e.g. from the SAP NetWeaver usage types PI (Exchange Infrastructure), EP (Portal), etc.

When referring to these enhancements, we often use "CTS+" to highlight this fact.

News on CTS+ in EHP1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0

Enhancement Package 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 offers new options for CTS+. You can now for instance transport activities directly from within the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio. In addition, it is now possible to work on the same transport request in teams. Take a look at this presentation get details on the new functionality.

Best Practices for Implementing CTS+

This guide explains the architecture and main components of the enhanced Change and Transport System. You will find an overview of the relevant CTS+ components and configuration steps in general. In addition, you will find descriptions for system landscapes and examples on how to configure simple and complex system landscapes supporting different use cases.
