    What Are SAP Enhancement Packages for SAP Netweaver 7.0?


    Enhancement packages for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 provide new innovative functionality on top of an existing SAP NetWeaver 7.0 implementation.You may install an enhancement package for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 optionally. Customers can either stay with the existing core functionality of their SAP NetWeaver 7.0 implementation and apply the regular support package stacks (SPSs) that contain patches but no new features. Or they can add an enhancement package to their SAP NetWeaver 7.0 landscape and benefit from the new functionality contained in it. The patches of the core delivery line will also be contained in the enhancement package delivery line so that customers who opt for an enhancement package can maintain their system easily. The maintenance period for an enhancement package for SAP NetWeaver follows the maintenance strategy of the underlying SAP NetWeaver main release. Enhancement packages for SAP NetWeaver per se do not have separate license terms but they do follow the respective license terms of SAP NetWeaver. Therefore, certain of the contained capabilities might require extra licenses. Customers are kindly asked to contact an SAP representative for further information.For SAP NetWeaver 2004, there will be no enhancement packages but the regular support package stack shipment only.

    What Functionallity is Contained in SAP Enhancement Package 1 for SAP Netweaver 7.0 and What is the Release Timeline of It?

    Enhancement package 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 contains major functionality for the following two scenarios:

    • Information Lifecycle Management (details)
    • Adobe Flash Islands for Web Dynpro ABAP (details)

    Following the ramp-up shipment which started on October 13, 2008, enhancement package 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 went into unrestricted shipment effective March 13, 2009. This applies to standalone systems of SAP NetWeaver 7.0 only. For systems that are used as foundation for the SAP Business Suite, please read the following paragraph.

    What is the Implementation Strategy for SAP Business Suite?


    With the unrestricted shipment of enhancement package 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0, only implementations within standalone installations of SAP NetWeaver 7.0 are supported (e.g. for BI, EP, etc.).

    For existing installations of SAP Business Suite systems (i.e. SAP ERP 6.0, SAP CRM/SRM/PLM, ...) etc.) that are based on SAP NetWeaver 7.0, the SAP enhancement package 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 shall not be installed separately, as it will result in malfunctioning of the installation procedure and/or the final system state.

    Business Suite 7 (generally available since May 5th, 2009) is technically based on the SAP enhancement package 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0. All relevant parts of enhancement package 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 are included in the respective SAP Business Suite 7 installation routines and will be installed automatically underneath the SAP Business Suite systems when an upgrade to SAP Business Suite 7 is performed.     General note on the relation of enhancement packages for SAP Busiess Suite and SAP NetWeaver:
    Customers who have implemented certain enhancement packages for SAP Business Suite might have to implement a certain enhancement package for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 as well. Please refer to the respective documentation of the SAP Business Suite for details.
