In June 2006 SAP launched SAP ERP 6.0 which is based on SAP NetWeaver 7.0. With this release, SAP introduced SAP enhancement packages for SAP ERP. Starting with the consolidated SAP Business Suite 7, which contains SAP ERP, SAP CRM, SAP SRM and SAP SCM, SAP enhancement packages have also been provided for SAP NetWeaver systems.
SAP Enhancement Packages deliver new and improved functions and include software innovations like UI simplifications, functional enhancements and enterprise services. SAP Enhancement Packages are no Support Packages. Starting with this new concept there is a strict separation between corrections, legal changes and security updates via Support Packages and new functions via SAP enhancement packages.
The SAP Enhancement Package concept allows customers to choose if, when, and how much new functions they like to implement to their systems.
Previously, customers with a high demand on business improvements had to perform an upgrade as a major business activity every 5-6 years. With SAP enhancement packages you can permanently close functional gaps by implementing new functions in digestible portions. Besides the fact that SAP enhancement packages are optional, they are also cumulative, which means that the newest available SAP enhancement package contains new functions as well as all functions introduced with already shipped enhanced packages.
