We are using BW 7.01 and BOBJ Explorer 4.0 BWA 7.0. Do we need SBOP ACCELERATOR 1.0 in addition to this? We are close but cannot see our BWA indexes in Explorer despite following the guide.
To connect SAP BusinessObjects Explorer with a designated SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator via the CMC administration page:
1. Stop the Explorer servers.
2. Logon to the BusinessObjects Enterprise CMC.
3. Navigate to Manage > Applications.
4. Right-click Explorer and click Properties.
5. Within Advanced Configuration: type the host and port values of the designated BWA.
For example:
com.businessobjects.datadiscovery.dataprovider.trex.host=<mybwaserver>
com.businessobjects.datadiscovery.dataprovider.trex.port=3<TREX_instance_number>16
Note:
This first entry should point to the blade with the first master name server
(or at least to a blade with a master name server).

Did you restart the Explorer Servers in the CMC? If so, you can also try swapping out the name of the server with the IP address of the first blade (and also subsequent blades if you have multiple entries) in the advanced configuration.
Yes we stopped and started the servers for Explorer to no avail. We have been in contact with SAP and have been getting some mixed responses. If you have any insight it would be appreciated:
1) We have BWA 7.00.55.00 and BWP 7.01 SP 9 do you know if this is supported with Explorer 4.0?
Some SAP personnel have been saying Explorer 4.0 needs BW 7.3 which I find surprising.
2) We have been told that there may be a separate license key for the BWA driver of explorer. can you confirm?
I can't say for sure what version of BW you need to be on to run the Explorer tool. Go out to the service marketplace->BusinessObjects Support->Documentation-SAP BusinessObjects explorer. You will be able to see the support platforms there.
Did you also add the license key in the CMC? I remember we had to add it during this installation and also in the CMC. I cannot confirm your question regarding the different license keys...I believe we had just one.
Unfortunately there is no documentation regarding supported platforms for Explorer 4.x or for Explorer "Accelerated Version". If I look at the supported platforms documentation for 3.2 it does not make any reference to BWA/BIA.
As for the license keys:
I believe that they were added in CMC as well.
can you clarify if you had to install any additional components. Our Basis person said there may be BWA drivers for Explorer which she needs to add. have you heard of this additional install?
No I don't think we had to install any additional components. If I recall there was just the actual BOBJ install (for the CMC) and then the Explorer software. There was some configuration that we had to after the install, but even that was pretty minimal. We are on BW7.3 and BWA7.2, Explorer 4.0 SP2.
Have you considered upgrading to BWA 7.2? I was just reading this article and it sounds like you may need to be on BWA 7.2 to utilize the Explorer 4.0 accelerated version functionality.

BWA7.20 news
The BWA7.20 release has been generally available since Q1 2010 and it is possible to upgrade to BWA7.20
even if the BW system is based on a 7.00 or 7.01 releases. In general, this is done when using the SAP
BusinessObjects Explorer, accelerated version, since the Explorer requires the latest BWA release.
It looks like that is going to be our next step at this point despite the fact that we had trouble finding an official SAP source that says it's required. I have seen a few presentations which make reference to the requirement but no official documents. Our sales engineer did some digging and sent us an email about 30 minutes ago:
In talking with a couple of resources It seems likely that the BWA version may be the issue. The latest version for BWA that was supported was BWA 7.2 Rev 9. Is it possible in your environment to test that release and see if that corrects the issue?
I guess we will try that next.
thanks again for your help.
I just wanted to let you know that we have upgraded our BWA to 7.2 and still are unable to view the accelerator indexes from within explorer. Anyone have any other advice?
Did you ever solve your issue?
Silly question, after upgrading the BWA 7.20, did you also install the BI (BOBJ) explorer software on the blade & start the explorer services there?
Hi Barnaby,
It works for me. I have used BWA 7.20 (SP18) with BOBJ 4.0 SPS2 (FP15). You need to install Explorer service on both BWA blade server as well as in BOBJ server. Use t-code RSDDV in BW system and create index for explorer ( there is a specific option for explorer index). During installation specify the correct CMS name and port. Also select only "Explorer Service" do not select any other option during installation. You have to perform the following two post installation steps :
1) Logon to SAP BW system
2) Based on your use Web Server ( Tomcat or ISS ) you have to change the default.settings.properties file to where you need specify CMS host port and security etc.
If need further info let me know.

Thank for the hints! In addition I had to configure the BWA cubes to be "activated" for Explorer. Have a look here:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73ehp1/helpdata/en/4b/e2ff960ff91323e10000000a15822b/content.htm
In addition, at least as far as we've tested, there is no need to install the Explorer services on the BWA blade. It worked perfectly without it.

Raphael
Thanks for posting your findings. I know you don't need Explorer servcies on the BWA blade, but did you have to install Explorer Services on the EXPLORER blade(s)?
We use a pretty simple BO Explorer setup on a BOBJ Edge installation; no seprate hardware...
What about explorer service on BWA Blade server ( not on the same blade, a dedicated blade for BO explorer service). I just follow the SAP installation+config guide and as per the guide I have installed BO explorer service on a dedicated blade ( in BWA server). Could you please share - how did you configure without that ?
Regards,
Dipam
The important thing to note here is that we don't use a dedicated BO Explorer hardware. We simply use the BO Edge 4.0 SP4 standard bundle (it should work the same way with the full BO BI Platform product), installed on a 32GB RAM (virtual) server based on Win2008. BO Explorer is installed as a separate setup on the BO server, but tightly integrates into the BO Edge server (e.g. CMC, BI Launchpad etc.) So we run the four Explorer services directly on the BO Edge server.
