You can use program ESH_TEST_SEARCH or if you are using EhP4 Talent Management Core you can use function HRTMC_SEARCH_OBJECTS. You can also search in the indexes in tcode TREXADMIN.

program ESH_TEST_SEARCH only shows in some cases the amount of hits but not the results although there are some hits - so it's not very useful. As we don't use EhP4 Talent Management Core I cannot use function HRTMC_SEARCH_OBJECTS. In TREXADMIN I must select an indexID, but what I need is a single input field for my search string and as a result a list with all objects containing the search string in consideration of all indexes existing in TREX.

Sorry I couldn't provide any more useful information - my area of speciality is Succession Management. I have used TREXADMIN to show a list of records in the indexes, but I'm not 100% sure this is what you are looking for (I got all 10,000 records in the security index showing in this transaction).

as I already wrote before in this thread program ESH_TEST_SEARCH is not very useful for me.
In the meantime I got an answer from SAP - they say that Embedded Search is always object-related. Search over multiple objects is not possible, for this you need a search machine like SAP Enterprise Search.

When you get to NW 7.02 (ABAP) you can use transaction ESH_SEARCH with opens a WebDynpro for searching multiple objects. I'm not sure if it is doing all our TREX indexes yet as I've only just started testing.
