HANA SP2 to SP3 Manual Update

Hi

I already posted thread Regarding SP3 Update and closed.

Following that SP3 Notes, Now i am going for Update from HANA SP2 to SP3.

Current version of HDB is

1.00.12.xxxxxx..I think SP2 Revision 12.

Now i am planning for manual update to SP3 Revision - 24 directly on current system

downloading from Market place.

1)how long does the server installation update takes place? any idea?

Any idea what parameter would be asked during manual update using ./hdbupd

2)regarding HDB Client, should i have to download under Linux Suse 9 X86_64 or LInux X86_64?

(I am working on Linux SUSE 11 SP1)

Pls confirm.

Regards

Magalingam

    Hi Magalingam,

Although I think SAP supports migrating from SP2(old revisions) to latest revision directly. I would suggest that you first update to Revision20  and then to Revision24. (you can consider it a cautious approach..just like updating SAP kernel )

-->Server installation and update runtime is around 20 minutes.(personal experience)

--> Update will ask you the <sid>adm password

--> If you are using  Linux SUSE 11 SP1 as you client machine, download the "Linux on x86-64" client.

I successfully upgraded the HANA SERVER DB Version 24.

But my SAP Hana server is down. what could be the reason.

        Hi Magalingam,

How do you know your HANA server is down? Did you run something like "ps -A|grep hdb"?

You will have to upgrade your studio, an old SPS02 studio will not be able to connect to the upgraded database...

        Hi,

From your upgrade log, it looks upgrade has gone through successfully. You can check from OS with <sid>adm user by giving the command (./HDB info) from location: /usr/sap/<SID./HDB<XX>

It should show you that all services like statisticserver, indexserver etc are up and running. If not, you can trigger am manual restart.

What do you mean by rest of installation? If you mean client and studio install/upgrade..yes you can.

        Regards, Rahul

Your 2) regarding HDB Client, should i have to download under Linux Suse 9 X86_64 or LInux X86_64

You don't really need the hdbclient on the server machine (although it's usually installed). If you want to install it, use LinuxX86_64.

The Linux Suse 9 X86_64 is for client applications (including ABAP servers, i.e. SLT) that run on SLES versions <11 (9 or 10). One of the example of strange platform naming on Service Marketplace. Another example would be "Windows Server on IA32 32bit", which actually means Windows 32-bit. Not necessarily Windows Server. And nearly nobody those days remembers what IA32 means...

      Hi

      Thanks for all your replies.

Yes i cheked in Engine its running. but only in Studio its red.

When i stopped db from studio, then Start/Restart button is disabled.

I think i need to update Studio now in client side(windows).

I downloaded Window version studio MC_STUDIO100_24-20007647.SAR.

Hope this is enough to communicate Engine and Studio right?

Rest of the part(Client,Hostagent etc) is not mandatory to run HANA engine DB right.?

      Regards

      Magalingam
