I'm surprised you received any points for the blog at all because it's in your personal space, where points are not awarded: see SCN Reputation Program Overview
"Note that you are able to contribute in your “Personal Space” as well, but that area does not receive points, and will not show up in search for a specific space topic."
So this is a bug not because you didn't get points but because you did.

I thought the intention was that you didn't get points for producing content in your personal space but that points for likes and ratings would still be awarded. That seems fair to me - good content should be rewarded whereever it is posted.

I agree yet the reputation program is specifically geared towards SAP themed contributions. What if the content wasn't related at all to anything SAP yet the author received points for it, even though it doesn't demonstrate his or her ability on SAP topics or products?
Good question. That's down to how SCN users decide to react to the content, though. If enough people like it or rate it, then it is relevant to the community, even if not directly related to SAP. I'm happy for that to happen.
That was my understanding as well: Users would not receive the 10 automatic points when posting in their personal space, but would receive points for likes and ratings. Sounds right to me.
I think the idea of having personal space is so that users will be able post anything including non-SAP related content. That is why SCN doesn't include the space in contribution point calculation.
However, I don't think that has happened here. Most personal blog posts that I have found, are SAP related. I believe this has happened because most people who have posted SAP related content on their personal space, didn't know the difference between personal space and non personal space. If anyone can give me the benefit of posting SAP related idea on your personal space rather than posting on "non personal space", let me know.
If SCN wants to keep differentiating between personal space and non personal space, I would go with Steve and Ethan's idea of allowing community to decide whether a personal posting deserves contribution points or not. Community should be able to filter out useful contents or not by giving ratings or likes. I personally would rate or like contents that I am familiar with and I like. If I don't find a blog post to be useful for me, I wouldn't rate or like it. In this way, recognition can still be obtained by authors who have accidentally posted their content on their personal space too.
Most blogs in personal spaces were probably created before the SCN migration (March 11th, 2012), because that's where they were migrated to. Since then it is up to the author to move them to the appropriate public space. I would estimate that the vast majority has not done this yet, and many will probably never do it.

I see. Thank you for giving me the information. Obviously, you can tell that I was not an active contributor before the migration.
The lesson I learnt from this is that I know the difference between personal space and public space and I know the appropriate space where to post my content.
