It is not possible to do a Planning on DSO. You can only do Planning on Real Time InfoCube. That is what we will use in BPC as well.

You cannot do planning on top of DSO. One of the prerequisite for integrated planning is a 'Real Time Infocube'.

since DSO Planning is already mentioned in the above document I can give this information about planned functionality (with the usual disclaimer that SAP may change the plan at any time):
- a new or empty direct update DSO can be flagged as 'planning enabled'
- as attribute fields of the DSO only key figures are allowed
'Write back' is planned to be possible via aggregation levels as usual, but (maybe via disaggregation) on the 'lowest level' and via 'insert' or 'update' (i.e. there are no delta records).

Do you know if the DSO planning functionality will be available only for BW 7.30 on HANA or also for BW 7.30 on a traditional database?

I'm actually in the middle of an upgrade project, installing 7.30 SP07... but I'll have a look, this thing could be very useful.

DSO Planning was shipped with BW7.30, SP08 (or BW7.31, SP05). Integrated Planning supports 'direct update' DSOs with the new flag 'Planning Mode' being set. This flag ensures that Integrated Planning creates the SIDs for master data values used in the DSO. The old standard API for 'direct update' DSOs cannot be used since SID generation is not supported there. The 'planning DSO' can only be filled via Integrated Planning, but a planning DSO can be used as a source of a DTP.
Planning DSOs are supported on all DB platforms supported by BW, including HANA. Except on HANA one has the ususal limit of 16 key fields. Check note 1735590 for more information about DSO Planning and PAK.
