I´m setting up a BW 7.30 demo-system with BO 4.0 on top.
I currently trying to create an information space in BO Explorer for a Universe, but apparently in the new version only .unx-Universes can be used.
When I try to create a .unx-Universe with the Information-Design-Tool it does not allow me to use an OLAP-Connection.
Could it be that with BO 4.0 Explorer you can only set up Information Spaces using BWA or is there another way?
There are two ways to connect to SAP BW from BO XI,
1. SAP integration kit installed. Because using this kit, you can connect to the SAP BW and create OLAP universe on top of the BW infoproviders
2. In BO 4.0, you can use the "Information Desginer" (previously called as Universe Designer) to connect to BW to create relational universes. This makes use of the data federator methodology to connect to BW.
thanks for the answer.
We already connected BW to BO, it works fine with WebI and Advanced Analytics.
The only problem we have is using the BO-Explorer on BW through OLAP-Universes.
I tried to create a unx-universe for a BW-Query using the Information Designer.
When I choose the OLAP-connection I receive an error message "This is connection is not supported" (translated, I use the german version).
Without creating this universe I can´t use BO-Explorer...
at least I found the problem not being able to create an unx-universe.
Unx-universe cannot be created for OLAP-connections using SAP-BICS-Client, only for Connections using SAP-BAPI-Client.
Now I created an unx-universe using the BAPI-client, published it to BOE, but I still do not see it in the BO-explorer using manage spaces.
mate, could you please tell me how you got connected via SAP-BAPI-Client? Do you have SSO and the SAP integration kit installed?
I tried using BICS client and it is giving me the same error message saying "This connection is not supported". This is rubbish as BO 4.0 states that you can connect the OLAP and create business layer based on the OLAP connection in the IDT design guide. So, we are missing something... Anyone was able to explore any other possibilities???
I tried enabling the "Guest" user in CMC and saving with default password!! Still no luck!!

It seems that with BI4 you can only connect Explorer to BW InfoProviders via a Relational Connection/Data Foundation/Business Layer combination.
I haven't found any way to create an information space over a BW Query using BICS or MDX connections. This is a real shame as it means you cannot use restricted key figures or structures, which are critical in some functional areas such as FI.
Can anyone confirm whether it was possible to link to a SAP BW query with Explorer 3.x?
Can you please explain the steps of how you resolve this issue or share any doc or blog that you have created to make this work? We are using SAP BW 701 with SAPKW70109 and BO 4.0. We are new to the BO tools and we are trying to start using the BO Explorer with BEx queries. We don't have BWA or HANA in our environment. Hope to get some help from you.
You can use information design tool and you fallow this steps
1. create local project,
2. create relational connection under repsitory resources,
3. create data foundation under local project,
4. create business layer under local project,
now after business layer creation you need to publish your universe to your repository to use in your explorer space manage.
There is no way to use bex query. You should create your own query under the business layer.
You can find more about how to use BO 4.0 stuff take a look http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-7725
If they help please vote (like).
