    Did you install CR for VS?

    http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-7824

    First link.

    New app, set the Framework to full and CPU to x86 then drop the CrystalReportViewer onto the form. May have to add it to the tool box, make sure it's version 13.x.x.x.

    This should add the Engine and Shared to the references.

    Add a button, in the button code add the following:

    CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument rpt = new CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument();

    rpt.Load(@"c:\testreport.rpt", OpenReportMethod.OpenReportByTempCopy);

    crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = rpt;

    Use a report with saved data and it should just preview.

    If it doesn't look at the install process, and don't simply install the redist package, they don't integrate into VS.

    Try right clicking on the VS executable and selecting run as administrator.

    It's opening as a binary because the DDE doesn't have a relationship as to what a file with a RPT extension is.
