WFM core helps to find out the "availability" of a particular resource in cProjects. Effective cProjects 4.0, the availability function is inbuilt in the features itself. That is you can search a resource based on the availability inside cProjects 4.0. In cProjects 3.1, that feature was not available. Also you can transfer the resources, their availability and qualifications from the HR system to WFM core.
Since you are using cProjects 4.0, you can do away with using WFM core. Please tell me your requirements in resources handling in cProjects and I would be able to give you more insights into it.

The point is I don't need the handling of resources in cProjects. It's OK if cProjects gives me that feature, but I don't want to install an external feature (WFM core).
When I go into cProjects, the screen shows an error 'Communication with the WFM Core system is not possible'. Whatever I do, it's always complaining about WFM Core. I suppose, as I don't need that, there's a way to customize cProjects so I can solve that error. Could you point me to the right documentation / tell me how to solve it?

i am using CPR 4.0 and i am facing similar problems...
when i go to system -> status, it shows software component WFMCORE SAPK-20006INWFMCORE is installed.
but when i run PRP_WFM_ADMIN it says that WFM core is not installed.
is there a way to check whether WFM Core is installed and is working fine?
what if i dont want to use WFM core? wat are the other options.

If you do not have the possibility to install a live cache, there is the workaround to activate the built-in dispatcher.
But to enable this you have to do some changes in two tables:
- Please deselect the "Active Flag" in the table WFD_DSTL (this can be done with transaction se16)
- please delete the entry from table WFD_DSTL_HIST (this has to be done with database means)
- Now you should be able to switch to the Built-In Dispatcher with transaction /SAPAPO/LRP_CONFIG

WFM is an addon component provided by SAP for resource planning. It is used with Cproject/ CRM Service/ MRS.
Looking at the error it seems that wither WFM is not installed or that the steup is not complete.
Error about Live Cache is that, once WFM is installed, in the customizing there is a possibility for deciding the scheduler to be used. 1. live Cache 2. built In. For Live Cache, it has to be configured first. LiveCache is also another addon.
