The ERP system will be upgraded to EhP1 for NW 7.0 (= 701) with the required HR Business funcitons, but what is the best way to update the Portal system? I would prefer to not update the portal to EhP1 for NW 7.0, but only add the requires business packages and Java support packages. Can I update the Portal with the latest SP stack and the required Business Packages?

To implement EHP4 in your ERP system you have to go with EHP1 as EHP's for ERP are based on EHP1 for NW 7.0.
And if some portal is connected to this ERP that shold also be on EHP1.
