If it is an independent characteristic not restricted in filter , not getting derived from n e characteristic relationship and it is part of cube--aggregation level then we can change the characteristic value but at the same time also note that if it has master data check then you can only enter the values existing in the master data.

No, it is not possible to do planning on the charcateristics like the keyfigures.With respect to char's you can use the existing master data of the IOBJ's but new values cannot be added either via Web or Analyzer.

Hyma - As you mentioned, it is not possible to change the char values like key figures. But is it possible to change the char values in Analyzer (if the value exist in the master data)???

If i understood correctly,
lets take the InfoObject : PROD which is a characteristic.
The master data values for PROD are
PROD1
PROD2
PROD3
PROD4
If you want to change the value of PROD1 to PROD5 or even add a new master data value : PROD5 is not possible.

Can I change the value PROD1 to PROD2 in analyzer? I know it's not possible in Web....
Suppose the scenario is like below:
PROD Kf1
PROD1 100
PROD2 200
-
Total 300
-
Now you want to change PROD 1 to PROD 2 you can't actually change PROD1 to PROD2 and transfer values like you do with keyfigures.
PROD Kf1
PROD1 100
PROD2 200
PROD1 -100--->Add new line
-
Total 200
-
PROD Kf1
PROD1 0
PROD2 200
PROD2 100--->Add new line
-
Total 300
-
So still the entry for PROD1 exists but with zero value for the keyfigure.
No! If you have row with PROD1, you can not change characterstic from PROD1 to PROD2 in simple way.
You can only:
1) set 0 in kf with PROD1 and enter new row with PROD2.
2) run planning function on selected record, which can change PROD1 to PROD2 (but logic will be the same as in case 1: 0 in PROD1 and new KF record with PROD2)
3) to previos question. you can enter new value for characteristic in ready for input query if such characteristic without master data (only key) - this is solve problem with entering comment (up to 60 char) for example. In WEB you will need create one class for such characteristic, in Bex this works fine without any devel.

You cannot literally change char values as you can edit keyfigure values while you plan.
But, for such reasons we use planning functions.
In your doubt discussed in above post..to change plan values against PROD1 to PROD2 you could use Repost function (as mentioned above), or else a COPY function.
What specifically are you searching for...?

U r right ,U can plan for the set of characteristics values already existing with the master data .For example:0project,wbs,costelement master data available.
I can plan in the layout for the project with two different WBS,Costelement.
Project:- P1 WBS :- W1 CE :- CE1 Qty:- 10 price:- 10 Amt:- 100
Project:- P1 WBS :- W1 CE :- CE2 Qty:- 40 price:- 10 Amt:- 400
Project:- P1 WBS :- W2 CE :- CE2 Qty:- 20 price:- 10 Amt:- 200
So i can plan for project with different wbs,ce combination only when the value for WBS,CE persist in the master data.

Yes u can change the value from prod1 to prod2 in analyzer,if u r query is input ready query and product is not restricted with prod1 in filter.

You can use Repost functuin type in planning functions.
It will repost data to new char value than exist in MD of infoobj.
